Pleasure Island or Jellyrolls?

Last I heard, Jellyrolls permitted smoking. PI does not permit smoking inside the clubs.

I haven't been to Jellyrolls for some reason ;) but I understand it is not owned or run by Disney and they don't take Disney resort room key charges. Bring cash or a credit card for drinks.

What kind of songs can they play at Jellyrolls? Contemporary, oldies, anything? My husband and I are big 80's fans (we like to pretend that we are still 18)... how does Boy George sound on the piano?

They play everything!!!
As far as smoke, they have a lot of fans sucking the smoke up, so it's never bothered me.

my vote.....Jellyrolls!

Just DH (45) and myself (48). Only plan to spend one night somewhere besides the parks. DH doesn't dance (I guess he doesn't - I've never seen him!) I posted earlier about PI and got some great replies. I'm just not sure what we would enjoy better. I know PI has the comedy club (and we are big fans of standup comedy) and Adventurers Club (which definitely sounds interesting). Just trying to figure out where our money is best spent for one night "out". Seems like PI would end up costing us quite a bit more when you consider admission and drinks as opposed to Jellyrolls (and this sounds like a really fun place too), but we would have alot more options at PI to roam around. So what would you do?

OH MY GOODNESS- WE LOVE LOVE LOVE JELLYROLLS! NO TRIP IS COMPLETE FOR US WITHOUT MAKING A STOP AT OUR FAVORITE SING ALONG DUELING PIANO'S BAR! YOU'LL HAVE A GREAT TIME THERE! AND IN ALL HONESTY, THE LAST TIME I WENT TO PI IN OCTOBER AND THE LAST SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THAT, IT JUST WASN'T THE SAME AS IT USED TO BE. IT'S A VERY VERY YOUNG CROWD, LOTS OF HIGH SCHOOLERS/TEENAGERS, AND IN MY OPINION IT'S GOTTEN A LITTLE TRASHY. BUT THAT'S JUST MY OPINION.
I'D GO TO JELLYROLLS OVER PI ANYDAY! :drinking1

Jellyrolls all the way.

And its not like there's nothing else to do there. You can also check out the ESPN club and just walk along the boardwalk - they have cool street entertainers there and midway games and fun stuff.

Disney Girlie-Wirlie,
The last time we were at Jellyrolls you had to be 21 to enter. Has that changed?

Hi,
While we do love the Adventurer's Club, I have to go along with the crowd and say Jellyrolls. The only problem we have with Jellyrolls is the smoking.

The drinks are expensive, but that is true anywhere at DW.

You may have to get a taxi if you are staying at one of the resorts. I think you can get a taxi in front of the Boardwalk Inn. :flower:

Yes this is true about having to take a taxi back to your resort if you're not staying on the boardwalk (unless you have a car and a designated driver).
My sister and I went to Jellyrolls in October and it was about 2am when we left that night so we walked to the front of the hotel where we were told we'd have to take a taxi and then about 2 minutes later, one of the Piano guys (the young one) asked us if we needed a ride and so we gladly accepted and he drove us back to our Pop Century Resort. Very nice guy, we really like him and all of them.
Due to the fact that I'm from NY, I feel I'm at that place quite often. I feel like a Jellyrolls groupie or something!

Jellyrolls is open every night. But some nights are more crowde dthen others. I've been when it was just us and a couple other people and I'v been when it's pretty crazy(which is my personal preference). If you like it like that, ask when "castmember night" is. They do have suchj a thing and on castmemeber night it's so crowded, good luck finding somewhere to sit! But it's more fun b/c it gets really loud and everyone sings along.
You can wear whatever you want. I think you can absolutely go in there by yourself. However, can I make a suggestion if you do? Sit at one of the tables in the front. If you sit right in the front you can interact with the piano players. We like to sit in the front b/c of the fact that it's much more interactive.

CM night at Jellyrolls used to be Tuesday's, but on another thread a few months ago a CM said that they can get in free Mon-Thurs.

I agree, the bigger the crowd is the better (as long as I have a seat). You might not get your song played, but the more the merrier.

I'm hoping I'll be able to make a trip there this month. I'm going to Orlando later this month but will be staying at Universal, but maybe we'll drive over one night to see them play. They have a similar bar at City Walk that I've been to (O'Briens?) but in my opinion, although it's still a very good time, it fails in comparison to Jellyrolls.

***Oh yeah, and I little helpful hint to Jellyrolls newcomers: The piano players will most likely roll their eyes :sad2: if you request "Piano Man" or "Sweet Caroline" :hyper: ***

I'll try to see if I can remember everyone's questions and make sure they are answered.

Jellyrolls is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

It is very casual. I usually go in jeans or shorts and a t-shirt. Sneakers, sandals, or crocs.

Smoking is allowed, unfortunately. I have allergies, and I have only had it bother me to the point where I needed to step out for a bit and get some fresh air once or twice.

The piano players know a wide array of songs. You'll here a lot of Billy Joel, Elton John, and Jimmy Buffet. A bit of country. Anything from the Beach Boys and the Monkees to Coldplay and Maroon 5. If they know it, they'll play it. If they don't know it, they will tell you, and offer you your money back or give you the chance to change your request. Since this is on Disney property, they do have some limitations on what they can sing, so keep it clean ;)

If you need ideas for songs to request, send me a PM, and I'd be happy to tell you some of my favorites that each of the piano players do.

And one of the other questions I get a lot is how much to tip for a song. Depending on how many songs I want to hear, I tip anywhere from $2-$20 for a song. If you have a song you really want to hear, putting down a $10 or a $20 will get it played a lot faster than a dollar or two.

So go, and have fun, and tell them Karen from Boston sent you :)

I just noticed that I missed this question, and I figured I'd answer it seperately.

I have spent many nights at Jellyrolls all by myself, and I have always had a blast. When I'm by myself, I'll usually sit on a bar stool in the back, but I know my friends have sat at tables up front by themselves in the past. I have met some really nice folks at Jellyrolls, and enjoyed spending time chatting with other people at the bar. The servers are all wonderful, too.

I have had one problem with some sleezeball hitting on me and bothering to the point where I had to get someone to walk me out of the bar at the end of the night, but overall, I have felt really safe and comfortable going there as a single woman by myself. I have always felt comfortable walking back to my resort if I'm staying at an Epcot resort when the bar closed, or heading to the main door of the Boardwalk to catch a cab if I am staying elsewhere.

When's your trip? Maybe it will overlap mine, and you can meet me there ;)

If you go to Jellyrolls and Scott is playing, start calling him Skippy. Not sure where it came from, but now it has turned into a joke.. Ray will usually play it up.

HAHA!!! Yup, this is very true! Believe it or not, I found this out first hand. I requested a song last time I was there. I decided during a not-one-of-my-favorite songs to get up and go to the bathroom. When I got out of the restroom, one of the piano players approached me and introduced himself. We talked for a little bit and I asked him "Hey, how come you guys didn't play my song? It's one of my favorites"! He asked me what song and I told him it was "Laid" by James. He started laughing and told me that was one of his favorite songs too and he wished he could play it but then explained to me how they're not allowed to! :rotfl2:

I think that is pretty hilarious. Even though you're in a bar where everyone is 21 and over, you're still in Disney and ya gotta keep it clean.
