Please use Safes in the rooms

Maybe it's someone who posts regularly and doesn't want anyone to know they had stuff taken? Or is it some kind of scam?

Sometimes when we see a low post count we wonder if it might be a troll. Someone who likes to stir up trouble is an unfortunate downside to forums. Though I do enjoy watching the drama unfold . However, sometimes it is someone who just doesn't check back into a thread they started. I hesitate to say this could be a troll b/c what purpose would be served by talking about using safes? Now if they had asked a question about strollers, mugs, pool hopping, or something to that effect, I would hazaard a guess that it could be. I see no reason for someone to choose that if they wanted to stir trouble. I also don't see why someone who posts a lot would care enough to go "under cover" in order to avoid it being found out that they had been robbed. Most of us that post a lot just want to help others have magical vacations as well, so I think we can rule that one out. I think it is just someone who was looking for a reason to start a thread, but never checked back in.

I enjoy locking up the wallet and any valuable and just using the room card to charge everything. It is nice to not have to carry a wallet.

I work in the hotel industry and hotels management DO usually have a master key or master combination for safes. There are usually two-three people in the hotel who have access to this, depending on the size of the hotel, and its usually high level management.

If you are traveling with something very valuable, it's best to use the hotel's safe deposit boxes. I don't know if WDW has these, as I have never gone looking for them, but the safe deposit boxes are typically located in a locked room behind the front desk guarded by security cameras usually both inside and outside. You need the manager's master key as well as the key they give you to open it. Without one or the other, it cannot be opened. If you lose your key, they'd have to call in a locksmith or the company who owns the boxes. This is the safest way to store items when traveling, if you're concerned.

On one of my trips the key was missing from the safe. Security came with a new lock and key. It didn't take him long, pulled the one out and replaced it with the new one. He handed me the key and I had to be sure it fit the lock. It did and I was happy as a clam

I think Disney has a different sort of system in place. My experience with my mom's safe was very nearly like the one below this sentence.

This is what they were going to do to my mom's lock. I wasn't sure who they were planning to call to take care of it, but they did not have a master or a backup key, that is for sure.

One of my sisters had her iPod stolen out of a drawer at ASM last year just before my trip. I was super paranoid about my laptop being taken so I left the do not disturb sign up for the whole week and dealt with my own linens!
