It's perfect for their age, but not an all day event. It's very hands on, lots of different themes, garage area, market, farm, forest, doctor's office, etc. We have been taking DD6 and DS9 there since they were toddlers, and just recently tried the new location they moved to in Fairmount Park, as they had $2 nt. from 5-7pm(up to $15/pp normally, plus $5 parking, which is a little steep IMHO). It's getting a little young for DS, but he brought a friend and they had fun. It's nice and open in the bigger space, w/a beautiful carousel(cost $3 extra), and kids can run from area to area and try it all out. It's probably a 2-3 hr. deal - lots of fun for little ones!
You are right down the street from the PHL Zoo, which we love, so if you wanted to make the trip more "worth it", you could do 1/2 a day at each.( I know you don't have coupons for that one!) You could hit the zoo in the a.m., pack a picnic lunch(lots of spots to eat), and then do the museum for a couple hrs., or vice versa. Just an idea! HTH! Let me know if you have any other ques. - we are from SJ, right over the bridge, so very familiar!
