Please Think About DH...

Just wanted to update everyone and thank you all again for your support.

DH got called yesterday and was told that they were really impressed by him, they LOVED his ideas (watch; some of those ideas will be implemented in the class now...ugh), and know he's going to make a fantastic teacher, but they "had to go with someone who had already worked in the district and was wanting to come back out of early retirement."

DH was heartbroken, but like I told him, at least we have something job-wise. That's a lot more than some people right now! I did convince him to quit the retail job, though. He'll continue subbing and tutoring, but we NEVER get to spend any time together, so that'll help. The little bit of money he was making there isn't enough to keep us apart as much as it does. He's supposed to be turning his two-weeks in tomorrow.

Like I always tell myself, things work out for a reason, so those just aren't the people he was meant to work with right now. He seemed in better spirits last night, so hopefully he'll perk up soon. I know it just broke his heart that they told him how great he is, but that they hired someone else that had already worked there since it's the middle of the semester. I just wish they hadn't even called him in for an interview if they knew that was most likely going to happen.

Thank you all, though!

Thanks for letting us know. I will continue to pray. I pray every day for many people who are looking for jobs in this horrible economy. I hope he finds something soon and you guys grow closer together. Take care! :)

Good luck! I know how hard it its...my BF has been looking for a teaching gig since last June. She's an experianced teacher with 10 years on the job at a private school and then a public school in FL. She moved back to IL to be close to her family and had no idea how hard it was going to be to find work. She's had a few interviews but no luck. She's subbing all this year and is hoping the contacts at the schools she is making will translate into a job for next fall. Fortunatly she is single and can live with her mother rent free, so the little money she does make can keep her afloat. The killer is no medical insurance...

So sorry to hear that! New York is about to slash billions from education funding because of the recession (and the stimulus money is not going to last much longer). It means over a hundred layoffs just in our district at the end of this year (and we don't have county schools in NY, this is just two towns and a village). I know soooo many teachers who are looking for FT work.

Several years ago everyone said there would be a huge need for new teachers; enrollment in teacher prep programs grew. But many potential retirees are still on the job (I work with several people going on 38 years in the classroom) and districts have learned how to streamline through attrition. Nowadays you need multiple certification areas or know someone just to get noticed.

So sorry to hear he didn't get the job! Will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Well, my first thought was to tell you to get down here to Texas, because jobs are plentiful, but then I see you're in Plano? My kids are in Leander ISD (north of Austin)- we build at least 2-3 new schools each year and they are hiring teachers like crazy. I know you would probably hate to leave DFW, but it might not hurt to look in other school districts? I hope that your DH had a great interview today and wish the best for him.

I was thinking the same thing...I'm a teacher in rural East Texas and there are frequent openings all around.

littlepeeps I don't know what parish you are in, but in my parish and others surrounding me none of the teachers aren't certified. Many of them had to get certified to keep their jobs and that was statewide. My sil teaches Biology at high school and she had to get certified several years ago over a summer so she wouldn't get bumped by someone who was. Many schools are hiring near me.

HeatherBelle614, I am so sorry things did not work out for your husband with this job :( You have a great attitude so just keep hanging in there and supporting each other
