DH is an out-of-work teacher who has been looking for a job for 2 years this spring. Teaching jobs in our area are insanely hard to come by (which, it seems to be that way pretty much everywhere right now from what we've been told.)

People that were set to retire did not do so because they couldn't afford to leave a job with the economy the way it is, people who had left teaching to be stay-at-home parents have gone back to work (with experience), etc. So, needless to say, for straight out of college teachers (like DH) with no prior teaching experience, it has been next to impossible to even land an interview here. (We have 20+ teacher friends that can not find a job.)

But, DH got a call last week that an English teacher (what he is certified to teach) at a school near us was fired, so he got the ball rolling to apply. The principal spoke with him the same day he sent in his information (on a Thursday) and said that if the hiring department was interested, they'd call him for an interview.

He received a call Monday from the hiring department, and went in for his interview this morning.

He is so excited, but I'm so worried that he's going to get his hopes up (again) and they're going to hire someone with experience since it is mid-semester.

So, please send thoughts/prayers/pixie dust our way, if you would! They told him they would be making a decision by next Wednesday. This would mean the world to him; being an unemployed newlywed has weighed heavy on him and he's been really down about not finding a job. He works 4 (yes, 4) part-time jobs just to help me financially, but we NEVER see each other. Literally, he comes home late, we say good night, I get up early, say good morning, and that's all we see each other. (We'll be married 2 years this June, and it's been like this since we got married.) Hoping things finally fall in to place for him!!

TIA!!

Best of luck to him!Fingers crossed!

Good luck to both of you. I know you're probably scared, but try to keep positive and look at all the good. I hope so much that he gets this job!!!

Good luck to your husband. My DD's high school just hired a new teacher at the semester for her science class. This is his first full time teaching job. He has been at the school for 2 weeks. So far he is doing a great job.
So it can be done for those just starting out. Good luck to your family.

Good luck to you and your dh! I guess I naively thought that teaching jobs were easy to come by. It's always seemed like you couldn't go wrong with teaching or nursing in terms of ease of employment/ job security. Sorry to know that I was wrong.

I hope it works out. DH and I were in a similiar situation of not seeing alot of each other when we were newlyweds. DH was a full time student (taking as many courses as he could possibly handle just to get done quicker ) and worked all night. Usually he would work 8pm until 8am with his first class starting at 9am and classes until 3pm. I have no idea how he managed and it really makes us value our time together....13years later.

Sending every kind of best wishes, pixie dust and prayers your way!! Hope it all works out for you guys.

I hope he gets the job. Good thoughts to both of you. :wizard:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

Good luck. Just think he may just have a bigger advantage in that they can pay him a beginners salary. Now that the schools are hurting for money the lower salary might just win him the job.

From another English teacher: I hope he gets the job!

Thank you all for your support!

Our area (Dallas) got a record breaking snowfall last Friday (12.5 inches - that's HUGE for us! Our previous record for all time was well under 10 inches.)

But, that means the schools were shut down on Friday and they're closed today for President's Date, so the process for deciding who to hire has been slowed down. We're still doing lots of impatient waiting!

My husband was a teacher for 5 years and is in his 8th year as an administrator. He says they get so many applicants for each opening and it is very competitive right now. I think it is awesome your husband is this far along in the process. Good Luck!!!

As one recent teaching graduate (English as well!) to another, good luck to him... Full disclosure I did look at profile to see where a middle school English teaching positoin would be... forutnately it was in another part of the country.

It is insanely difficult to find a position. I'm applying left and right. I am thankful that I do have a non-teaching full time job, but my heart is with my students and my place in this world is in front of a classroom.

Good luck to him. Its like this one the east coast as well. Our state just lost tons of funding due to a new governor and I heard that many veteran teachers will be laid off-- so that makes my job search so much more difficult.
