Please tell me your experiences with rough seas!

The weather looks really rough for our cruise in 10days. Love to hear your experiences good and bad. Thank you :)

On our March 2013 Eastern Caribbean cruise, it was rocking so badly one night, I should NOT have been walking around in high heels :rotfl: It was formal night, so I was, but I felt I was going to fall over several times. DH got nauseated at dinner but my daughters and I were fine. DH was okay after a little while although he had a seasickness patch since he gets motion sick easily. The servers told us it was highly unusual for the boat to be rocking that much. It was only like that one night that I can recall.

We were on the Disney Magic in Sept 2008 during Hurricane Hanna. Winds were 70mph and waves were 30 ft tall. I thought we were in BIG trouble the night it hit hard. We had a balcony and water was splashing onto our balcony door. We were rocking so hard everyone was awake (plus the closet doors were banging through every rock)....but we made it home safely. weather was then bad for 2 days afterwards...thAt first day, we couldn't even go outside. I wouldn't want to go through that again, but it is something we'll never forget. :scared1:

@keishashadow we travel on the 16th-19th and the weather on accuweather has not been good. Windy rainy and cool. I worry more about the wind as I understand on these big boats the wind is not your friend. :scared:

thanks for posting, thought you had another website I wasn't familiar.

sorry to hear the weather isn't currently cooperating but take heart in fact we had rain forecast just a week ago, things can certainly change for the better quickly.

crossing the gulf stream (down for some strange reason, perhaps against the bulk of current?) does tend to be the only time I've felt much motion primarily the 1st night especially when trying to sleep. The ships are rather large, I tend to avoid the upper decks when picking a cabin and go with direct aft or midship.

the non-drowsy dramamine might be a good item to throw in your carry on - but good luck!

My Brother and I were together on a small cruise ship in the 90's on the Pacific Coast. There was one night that was particularly choppy. I remember having to hold onto the railings when walking down the halls. It didn't bother either of us very much. We had a late dinner time and by the time it came around, we were always starving. Well, that night we made our way to the Dining Room and had noticed that the room seemed to be emptier and quieter than usual, but again, we were hungry. Ordered our meal and began to shovel it in. After a short time we began to feel like we were being watched. Looking about we realized that there were not many people in the room that were eating much and they all seemed to be wondering why the ships movements were not affecting our appetites at all.

I always make sure to bring a 2L of ginger ale. Bring dramamine because sea sickness can creep up fast. It ruined my dinner...but our server was so sweet...he brought a tray of my dinner up to the room for me. I was too sick to eat it...but I appriciated the though!! :)
