I just had abdominal surgery. I have strict orders not to ride anything that will jerk me around. This was my 8th surgery, and I sure don't want to cause myself to need a 9th one!!!

I know what to avoid at Disney, but I have no idea about Universal & IOA.

Any tips? :confused3

Sorry to hear about your latest surgery and hope that it doesn't keep you from enjoying your vacation. :flower3:

I'm no expert like some of the people here but assuming your doctor told you no jerky movements at all, here's a list of what to avoid.

At Universal Studios, I would not ride The Simpsons, Rip Ride Rocket, Disaster, Shrek, Jimmy Neutron and maybe the Mummy. Now, you may be ok on the Mummy since I don't remember it being jerky, just fast. You can also ask for stationary seating at Jimmy Neutron. Not so sure about Shrek but I would imagine so. MIB has some minor spining if you're ok with that. :)

At Islands of Adventure, I would not ride The Hulk, Dr.Doom's Fearfall and Dragon's Challenge. Cat in the Hat has minor spinning, Storm Force Accelatron is a "Tea Cups" ride, all spinning. Spiderman has some spinning and a simulated fall but not jerky. Popeye can have a bump or two when the Water Barge hits the edges same goes for Dudley-Do-Rights which has a drop at the end. Jurrasic Park River Adventure also has a drop, if you're ok with a fast drop then these will be ok too. Finally, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey I hear is very smooth, there is a couple of parts that you're on your back for a few seconds but it's not jerky at all. :thumbsup2

Hope this helps and I wish you a speedy recovery. :wizard:

The previous post gave a pretty good list. I would probaly stay away from all rollercoasters, including the Mummy. While it isn't very jerky, there are some quick directional changes could cause strain. There are stationary seats on Shrek, I beleive they are toward the front, next to the handicap seating areas. Definately make use of these seats.

At IoA, I'd be a little wary of Spiderman. It does tend to whip you around a bit, and get's bumpy when it simulates going down some stairs. Cat in the Hat can also whip you around. When the park opened, you could ask them to turn off the spinning for your car. Haven't heard much about this lately, but you could ask the CM at the entrance. If you plan to do Splash Mountain at MK, then you could do Dudley Do Right and Jurassic Park. I can't speak to Potter yet.

Hope you still enjoy your vacation!

A couple of months ago it was discussed that the spinning was turned off, it was said that it was going to be turned on again - but I can't confirm it. I've sorta avoid Suess Landing in the summer.

Also, stay away from Twister. Not for health reasons, but because it is the worst attraction in Orlando. I think you'd be fine on the Simpsons though.

It was still off when we were there the week of June 20th. Makes the ride a little lame for adults but DD still loved it :)

I pretty much agree with the posters above, every ride will give the warning not to ride but you should be okay if you know your limits. FJ was a pretty smooth ride, not jerky.

I was surprised at how bumpy Shrek was. I assumed it was just a movie and we wouldn't get bumped around. I was wrong. They wanted you to feel like you were along on a bumpy ride.

And I disagree with PP about Twister. One of my favorite moments was when my teenage nephew's longish hair -- which we always tease him about -- stood straight up during Twister. (If he had short hair, it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun.)

I also agree that you should see Twister and judge for yourself, I like it. The Mummy turns and dips fast like a coaster (because it is) but it is not jerky. The spinning on Cat in the Hat has been tuned down quite a bit so I'm sure you'll be fine unless you can't handle any spinning at all. Spiderman is not too bumpy but does spin you and it feels real, specially that simulated drop I mentioned on my 1st post. If you can help it, the Mummy, Spiderman and Harry Potter are ones not to miss.

Have fun and I wish you all the best. :wizard:

Thanks everyone! :goodvibes My surgeon said no coasters ever again for me. So, it looks like I will have to skip a lot... It sounds like I may be able to do the Harry Potter ride. That is the main one I care about anyway. :thumbsup2

Definitely go for the stationary seats in Shrek. It is bumpy.

I agree with what you said about Twister. I like the cow. ;)

Does Uni have "child swap"? If they do, and you are traveling with someone, I would suggest that you let the other person try it out first for you. I know that as an older person my definition of bumpy is very different than someone who is in their teens. It sounds like you need to be very careful! :wizard:

BTW, I like twister. Being from Texas it brings back some childhood nightmares. :rotfl:

I wouldn't ride Spiderman if I were you. It changes direction a lot and quickly which can be considered jerky. I actually slide around in my seat a lot on that ride.

I love the Jurassic Park River Adventure. It's not jerky at all but has a steep drop at the end.

Enjoy your trip. Good luck and hope your recover well.
