please tell me some pro's & cons for visitng WDW in august

{Using my daughters sign in!}We're not too far from you...Appleton. We always go the end of Aug. This year we'll be there the 20th thru the 28th. I won't lie to ya...it's hot! As for the rain, it rained a couple of times when we were there but we were usually back at the resort taking a break and freshening up so it wasn't a big deal. The parks do start to close earlier but the crowds are lighter so you can get more done. Usually by 9:00 we were beat anyway. By the way, we got airfare out of Appleton for $250 each. It's a little more now but if you can take advantage of the free dining, that's a big plus. Remember, if you fly out of Milwaukee, you'll pay about $10.00 a day in parking.

we are going to be at the WL aug 12-17th. so we are preparing for heat/humidity. anyone from MA. knows how hot/humid it has been here the last week. can i compare it to this at all or worse. i fearing its worse.

We went last year at the end of August and beginning of September and it wasn't bad at all. We did get stuck in the hotel for a few days on Labor Day weekend during Hurricane Frances but we were scheduled to leave that Sunday and we'd already been there for two weeks so we didn't miss anything. We ended up having to stay two extra nights (no flights out because of the hurricane) and our kids missed their first day of school but they were both happy about that.

We are from WA and thought we'd have trouble with the heat and humidity but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. We just got used to being sticky. Disney does a good job of cooling you off while you're waiting for rides and since the lines were short we didn't have to wait out in the heat for many rides. Also, being from WA, a few minutes of rain (or even an hour) is nothing and since it's warm rain we much prefer it to weeks of cold rain here in WA. We just took lightweight rain jackets and very compact, lightweight umbrellas. I don't ever remember having to use my jacket--I just used my umbrella.

We have gone the last week of August 5 of the last 6 years. Great time to go. It is hot but it is hot in NJ in August, too. We go out early, come back in mid-afternoon to recharge and go back to the parks. Have been near hurricanes, went last year in between the first and second, but have never had one alter our vacation. Hours are a little less than earlier in the month but you can still enjoy yourself. Maybe we have been lucky but have really never been hampered by rain in late August.

We're from southern Wisconsin and went to WDW the last week of August in 2003. The heat and humidity were pretty bad. It was kinda like the worst summer day we have in Wisconsin. However, unlike in Wisconsin the daily afternoon rain came through and cooled things off. Me and my DD don't deal with the heat too well. However, it really was not that big of an issue when at Disney as you are in and out of air conditioned buildings at the parks all day. We "conditioned" ourselves before hand by taking daily walks or bike rides during the summer heat at home before going to florida. This seemed to help when we got there.

Really the weather was not that bad or we wouldn't be going again this August 20-27. The crowds did not seem to bad either which always helps. Besides, all the Disney magic we experienced overshadowed any weather annoyances we had.

HI
i wanted to reply to you .........

seeing how warm we are already in WI, i was thinking the same thing, - we might be conditioned to it by august ( mabye i will jinx it and it will cool off now :umbrella: )
thanks for all the replies........keep them coming

Probably a repeat but...

PROS - LOW crowds, that's a big "pro"!!

CONS - "Iffy" weather, rainy, humid, active tropical weather patterns (hurricanes, tropical storms and depressions)....

PROS - LOW crowds!!!!! ;)

It is usually a trade off--but if I had a choice to go in June, July or August, I would pick (mid to late) August in a hearbeat because of the low crowds.

I know that everyone keeps putting low crowds as the biggest pro, do did I. But this year will probably will very different with higher crowds due to the popularity of the free dining package. There are a lot of you on this board who are going in that time frame or who have changed their travel dates so as to get the free dining.

As far as the heat and humidity, it really is a lot warmer than most of the places that you have all mentioned. The sun is so very strong down here in Florida and it makes a lot of difference in the heat, it really does. I grew up on Long Island and lived there up until 6 years ago and thought that I knew what humidity was in the summer. It doesn't compare to the humidity down here in Florida however, it comes close, but not close enough. And the typical rain showers that come during the summer months usually do cool it down a bit, but not always if they arrive early in the day.

As long as you come prepared for the heat, humidity and daily rain showers you 'll enjoy it, it's Disney. Be prepared to have to take a break if the heat or rain gets to you, settle in somewhere for a rest or a cocktail or something and it will be great.

I live in Northern Michigan so I think our weather is pretty close to Wisconsin weather - we are neighbors! When we went mid-late May last year I thought it was soooo hot. On our last day it almost hit 100! :( We still had a great time and to be honest, the weather didn't even effect us in the long run!

Once you get used to the heat and come expecting it, after a few days you will learn to ignore it. This year we are going back Aug 28-Sep 3 and the way I look at it, if it's a little hotter than last time, that's okay too because we still will have a great time- we'll be at Disney!
