First I'd like to thank all of you for the wealth of information I have gotten from reading these boards. This is the #1 spot to learn about Disney!!!

Now, my issue. We are taking one last GOOD vacation for awhile because we are planning for next year to have another baby and possibly me staying home for ahwile.

We have decided to do the 7-day Eastern Cruise, but the prices are so high, plus the cost of excursions, shopping and just general spending money. We are probably going to go with the Category 11 rooms, but I am sooooo scared that we are going to walk in and be in a cracker jack box, with no natural light.

I would love to hear from someone who has stayed in the Cat. 11, would you pay the extra money just for a porthole? Are you really in your room that much anyway? This will be our 1st cruise, so we aren't sure what to expect........

If given the choice to cruise in a category 11 or not cruise at all, I would definitely cruise. Category 11 cabins are fine (have booked them 3 out of 5 voyages). We are a family of 3 - myself and 2 teenaged daughters and have been quite comfortable. No porthole promotes sleeping easily in a very dark room. And we were in our cabin to sleep and change. A porthole is lovely and maybe one day we will be able to experience a verandah, but for now (and working within my single mom's budget) we will be content with any cabin, just so that we will be able to sail. Enjoy. Have no worries about your cabin.

Cat. 11 are great! We have used them twice...me, dh, dd(11), ds (3)......they are NOT a cracker box or a closet. They have plenty of lights in them, so they don't feel small and closed off. If it's just the 2 of you, you will be fine. It's always fun to sneak peeks in at the verandah rooms, and someday, maybe we will try one. But for saving $, you can't beat cat. 11. Plus, their locations are great.......

We have always used the Cat. 11 rooms. They are nice. Well laid out. Good use of space. Attractive. There is a curtain that pulls between the master bed area and the bunk bed areas. That is nice for changing clothes and we even pull them at night (so the night light the kids need doesn't keep us awake).

We never spend much time in our room anyway, so I don't see the point of paying a so much more for just a few extra feet of space.

You will have a great time! When we want to relax, we hang out on deck 4 on the nice comfty lounge chairs. That is 'our' veranda area ;) .

We am still waiting for our video from DCL. Disney cabins are larger than most ships. I have sailed Golden Princess 2 times now. They are large ships but the ratio is less than Disney.

We were going to book a cat. 6 but we always have the trouble with keeping all the light out. So we are thinking an inside cabin is just fine. We are going to the World after our 7 days cruise. We had rather book a cheaper cabin and save money for WDW.

We are going with the a Cat. 10. It is a little larger and has the spilt bathroom.

We also sailed in ca 11 2 years ago, eastern Magic. We were very happy with the cabin. I have only been on 4 cruises total, and have always been in an inside cabin, so don't know what it is that I should have been missing.
We went on a cruise last summer 1st after the Magic, and upon entering our cabin it was like a closet. Really makes you appreciate the size of the cabins on Disney. I would not hesitate to book this cat. again. We are going next month and my sister decided that she would like to try a veranda, so we have a cat. 6. Sure we will love that too. Really doesn't matter to me, just being on the cruise is what will count.

Thank you all so much for putting my mind at ease. I am SOOOOO excited to even being going on the cruise! I have always wanted to go to the Carribbean. It looks like we will be going on the Oct. 18th Eastern departor.

Again, Thank you everyone!!!

Happy Sailing :sunny:

We've sailed DCL three times in three different categories (cat 11, 9 and 7.) Most recently, we were in Cat 11. Before the cruise, I felt much the same as you...I was really concerned we'd hate the room and it would negatively impact the whole trip.

Much to our happy relief, we LOVED our category 11. The room size is almost the same size as the other categories...we are a family of four (we have an infant and a teen!) and we had plenty of storage space. We never felt boxed in, and like the other posters, simply used the in-room deck cam as our window and deck four as our verandah. Our service in the dining room and from our room hostess was excellent and we enjoyed the extra dark room for sleeping (we brought a night light, but really didn't need it...if you crack open the closet, its light stays on and provides plenty of night time illumination.) We're booked for next year's 7 day Western in a Cat 11...our extra $$$ will go towards shopping and excursions!

Enjoy your cruise! Happy sailing.:)

I have had category 11 cabins for my daughters several times as well as for my mother and sister. Very nice rooms, only thing besides porthole/verandah that is missing is the split bath.

Actually, if you tune in your tv set to the "view from the bridge" channel, you can have a make believe outside view, lol. Good luck! :)

Cat 11 is fine, plenty of space. We've stayed in a regular cat 11, but found cabin 5509 is the same size as a cat 10 because it runs the length of the hall.

In a recent post it was stated the cat. 11 rooms that run the length of the hall are actually the size of the cat. 10. Is this true, and if so does this mean they have a separated sink and bathroom area? Our cruise is just a few weeks away and we can't wait!!
This is my first post, I've been lurking for weeks and have learned so much. Thanks to everyone for the great info!!

Yes, a cat 11 that runs the length of the ship is the same size as a cat 10. We've stayed in both types of 11s. They are bigger, however do not have the split bathroom.

Hi Buckaroo's Dad,
I don't know if I am able to agree with you about sleeping easier as the mother of teenaged daughters. Just wait until Buckaroo is driving (and meeting Castmembers at Carlos and Charlies)....

Hey Dawn Hope!

I don't know if I am able to agree with you about sleeping easier as the mother of teenaged daughters.

Oops! I meant FALLING to sleep easier from worrying all day.

Just wait until Buckaroo is driving

Well bite your tongue and empty my wallet.

(and meeting Castmembers at Carlos and Charlies)....

Rest assured I'll be right there with him!...

We're also looking at cat 11 staterooms on the Magic, due to the prices of the other staterooms. We've only cruised once, on the Wonder, category 5, and really liked our staterooms. $1500+ per person isn't too appealing for a verandah, even the $850 for the inside doesn't look that great considering a verandah would run that on another line. But, I think we'll take cat 11 just to sail with Disney. I'm glad most people seem to have liked their category 11.

Should I try for the ones that run parallel to the hallways? Any cons with these?

CaliD,

Our Cat 11 ran parallel to the hall...we really liked the use of space...we entered the room in the living area, with the bathroom to our right and bedroom area to our left. It worked well for us!:p

Just a tiny warning for those with inside cabins - be sure to set an alarm clock!! It is so dark & peaceful, that you could sleep until 11 and not even notice.

We booked a cat. 11 for our next cruise. We are trying to convince ourselves that we will like it. We stayed in a cat. 6 on our four previous cruises. We already plan on bringing several night lights and a clock that stays lit. Any other tips from experienced cat. 11 people?
