We're staying there in October! We've always wanted to stay at WL, and renting points for VWL made this a possibility for us.

It's just DH and I, so I know that the studio vs. 1-bedroom will be fine. I'm just curious to learn about the rooms!

  • What are the rooms like?
  • What's included and not included (in the room)?
  • Can you make special requests via fax like at the regular resorts? If so - what's the fax number and when should I do this?
  • What specific studio view/room(s) would you recommend I request?

Thanks guys!

I can answer a few of your questions.

1. If you'd like to see the lyout go to dvcmagic.com and click resorts.

2. They have a kitchenette

3. You can have the person who mae the ressie for you call member services.

4. I'm pretty sure they all have a view of trees, but I'm not sure.

All the rooms at VWL have the same designation as far as view. Unlike the WL resort, which has tiers of views and room rates, all views at VWL are rated the same and are called woods views. The great majority of the VWL views are trees. A small percentage of the rooms overlook the quiet pool at the Villas...some people prefer that view since there's a little more going on there. Also, the pool view provides something of a partial view to Bay Lake.

Please keep in mind that DVC resorts honor room requests on the order they receive them. Many people reserve their rooms 11 months in advance, and another wave comes in 7 months in advance of the vacation dates. So all those would be ahead of the requests you would be making now.

This is not to discourage you from making room requests....just don't want you to be disappointed if all your requests cannot be met.

This is different than my understanding of how room requests are handled. 999ghsts, a VWL room assigner, posted this on another thread:

"I can tell you that we are required by DVC contract to block rooms in the order that they were created. Basically room blocking works like this. The room assigner runs a report showing the reservations that are coming in, this report runs in the order that the reservation were made by Member services (so the first person to book for that day is first and the last person is last) the room assigner then goes through the report and looks for room request (smoking, non smoking, water view etc.) they will block the reservations in order. So if the hotel is sold out you may not get your resquests based on when you booked and what is left after the requests ahead of you are blocked."

To add even more conflicting info, I just talked to DVC Member Services and the guy who helped me said he used to be a room assigner. He said that all of a certain day's check-ins are printed alphabetically, and room requests are considered in alphabetical order. With a last name beginning with "R", I really hope this isn't true!

I don't believe the part about the room assignments made on the checkin day according to the last name alphabetically. My last name starts with a V and the only time I did not get my requests was when I changed my checkin day about a month before 12/28. Usually I make them 11 months out and have had no problems.

would be nice to know the real low down on this...ours starts with S

999ghsts ....do u have any input on this latest twist...???

Just back from 2 week stay at VWL (first as DVC members), 10 nights of which were in at Studio. I felt the main difference between the regular Lodge rooms and the studio was that opposite the bathroom vanity area is the kitchenette, consisting of a small sink, counter area, approx. 3' refrigerator, small coffee pot, toaster, microwave, under and over cabinet space and drawers. In the lodge, this area would have been the closet. To the right of the vanity area was a closet with wall safe, ironing board with iron, and baby crib. To the left of the vanity area was the room with the bathtub and toilet. The vanity area has a single sink, blow drawer, drawer and shelf space. As you enter the "sleeping area", there is a queen bed, a nightstand, a fold-out sofa, sofa table, round table with 2 chairs, and an armoire/tv center with 4 wide drawers.

I noticed from staying in a 1 Br, then changing to a studio, that the odd numbered rooms were facing the pool/lake area. Our studio was 2509 (pool view), and 1 BR was 3512 (facing walkway/bus area).

MardiGrasDVC....reading the quote you cited and what I said, I don't see the conflict. The way I read 999ghsts' comments is basically that rooms are assigned in order of the reservations received.

I must be missing something because I think we both said the same thing.

Think you are correct Granny! Don't see a conflict. Priority is the order the reservations are received.
