1. We will be there from December 28 to January 4. Would it be best to leave doing the lights until near the end of our vacation, I believe they continue into January?

2. Can you stroll through taking your time, I have heard that people can be herded through in crowds.

3. What time of the day do they start and do they continue until park closing? For those of you who went December 2005 , were they included in EMH?

4. What are the 3D glasses for and do they have the snow machines?

I am so excited this will be our first time at WDW at this time of year. :sunny:

We went on the last night this past January and it was AWESOME!!! We definitely weren't hearded throught at all, but I don't know if that had anything to do with it being the last night. And we didn't have any 3-d glasses.

We went the Saturday after Thanksgiving and it was wonderful! We weren't herded through , the snow was falling and the music playing.. No glasses either!

They are gorgeous and a must see...the other thing to make sure you do is Illuminations prior to NYE. I waited until after the New Year and missed, again, the special finale. :rolleyes2 Stupid me thought this would go on until the 6th. I hear it is amazing and another must see. Have fun.

Thanks so much for all the great information. Keep it coming please :sunny:

We've been there twice several years ago. Maybe it has changed, but as it got dark, they handed out 3d glasses (the paper kind you could keep). Music was playing (no snow that I remember) and it was just beautiful!! Tons of Holiday dispalys that you could just walk through at your leisure.

We still have the glasses, and the kids use them at Christmas to look at our tree and other lights. All of WDW is decorated beautiful this time of year. The huge gingerbread houses at Grand Floridian are a must see too. Have Fun!!!

We were there in 2004, and the lights were truly beautiful. We are going back for Christmas & New Years this year. The 3-d glasses were very cool. When you looked thru them at the lights, you saw angels. We tried them on our tree at home and did not see angels in the lights so it was some type of special format they were using. Even without the glasses the lights are awesome and should not be missed. The snow gently falling with all the decorations & lights with the music playing was a very special evening. We were not rushed at all. We enjoyed hot choclolate while wandering thru the beautiful setting. It is one of hubby's favorite memories at Disney.

Finally got to see the lights last year, and they were wonderful! You are not herded through, go through at your leisure. We did not get glasses either.

My suggestion is not to wait till the end of your trip to see this wonderful display, as weather can play a part. If it is too windy or raining too hard they cancel it for the evening.

A few years ago we were there and planned to see the lights after our dinner at the Brown Derby. Something was terribly wrong at the Derby that night and it took 2 1/2 hours for dinner. Didn't think we were ever going to eat. We told our waiter that it was our last night and we were wanting to see the lights, he told us to go ahead and go back, tell the security guard that it was our last night and the Derby had kept us very late and the guard would let us go through. Well, he didn't. So sorry, park is closed , you will have to leave.

The next year they didn't have the lights, they were moving them. The next time we were there when they were up.... sorry, private party. One time the weather was bad so it was cancelled for the night.

Finally last year I had it scheduled for our first night. As I told my DH, I wasn't going to miss it this time! As we were walking towards the area DH said "You've built this up so much in your mind, I sure hope you aren't disappointed!" Right then we turned the corner and WOW!!! We spent the next couple of hours just strolling around, taking pictures, listening to the music, looking for the hidden Mickeys... in general having a great time! You will love this!

Have a wonderful time! :goodvibes

It is fantastic. If you enjoy looking at Christmas lights, this is a good time. If it seems a bit hum-drum to you to view lights at the Holidays, you may find yourself bored and more disturbed by the crowds.

1. The lights are taken down a few days after New Years so make sure you see it before they're taken down.

2. Yes, you can take your time. There will be the initial rush when it's turned on but after about 30 minutes or so, the crowds will reduce somewhat (depending on the day)

3. Lights are turned on at 6pm and they're on until the park closes. And yes, the lights are on during EMH.

4. The glasses give a nice glowing effect to the lights. And yes, the snow machines are there.

Another urging NOT to wait until the end of your trip -- on our MGM day this past Dec. (when we planned to stay right through to see the lights) it rained during the day. Not a soaking rain, no thunder or lightning, just some rain. And it stopped well before sunset. But, because it had rained during the day -- no lights! We were disappointed but we dealt with it (and it still makes no sense to me -- aren't they outdoor grade lights? why would rain that fell hours ago negate the ability to turn them on? oh well!). My heart went out to the bus loads full of people we saw as we left the park -- people who had clearly dragged themselves and their exhausted kids to MGM to see the lights -- and no signs were posted, and guards weren't telling people on their way in that the lights weren't on....

This is a must see. We have never seen anything like it. It does get quite busy between 6-8. It was really cool and DD still talks about it.

No glasses for us this Dec. But we had dinner at Mama Melrose and then walked into them.
