Please tell me about recent stays at CR

On a previous post I asked about a choice between CR wing room and WL courtyard view and most people seemed to lean toward WL but I have always wanted to stay at the CR and really want to try it. I went through just about every post I could concerning the CR and a few really made me think the CR rooms need a little renovating. One in particular mentioned a picture having black masking tape right across the middle (I wondered why this person didn't asked to be moved, maybe I'm picky but that would have upset me). If anyone has had a recent stay, please tell me what the room was like!!

I've stayed at the Contemporary several times in the last four years, both in the Tower and South Garden Wing. I'll be honest. The Tower has its advantages: location, excitement, great view. The monorail and restaurants are all right there.

But if you stay in either wing, you'll get a chance to experience esome of the best views in WDW. Request a Garden Wing room (that's excatly what it's called, as opposed to a "garden view", which is the standard view; yeah it's confusing ) and you'll get a first-floor patio with the view of Bay Lake, plus a small strip of beach. This has to be one of the loveliest rooms in all WDW - and no one ever talks about them. You can get up in the morning, open your patio door, and enjoy a cup of coffee on your patio, watching the boat traffic on Bay Lake.

Avoid parking lot views. Those Garden views overlookign the parking lot remind me of nothing so much as a Motel 6.

I know people love the Tower, but the privacy and setting afforded by the Garden Wing view should not be overlooked. Remember: if you go with this option, request a first-floor patio facing the lake. You wont be disappointed!

We stayed in the South Garden Wing two weeks ago and LOVED it. I was a bit nervous about room conditions also...I am very picky and was discouraged by a few posts, but our room was fantastic! We loved the funky decor and colors. The room was huge compared to other Disney resorts. (Have stayed at GF, CS, POR, AKL, BWI). I looked the room over with my very critical eye and found nothing that bugged me in the slightest.

We loved the quiet location and had a lovely waterview. The walk to the main building was only a few minutes and didn't bother us at all. The Contemporary has emerged as our new favorite resort. We loved walking to the MK and taking the boat over to Fort Wilderness.

I've stayed in the tower before and loved it, but I wouldn't hestitate to book a South Garden wing room again and use the money saved for extra treats and eat-outs!

Thanks for the info. I read some positive reviews on a thread someone else just posted also, so I went ahead and booked it. Now I just need to decide what requests to make, North or South wing, floor, etc. I'm so excited since this is actually where I've always dreamed of staying!

DH and I stayed in the North Garden Wing this past September, as I noted in another thread. I forgot to mention that I asked for (and got) a lake view...it WAS GORGEOUS!

Ecmommy is right...the walk to the tower is not far at all, and it is definitely quieter in the Wing rooms. I also liked the decor of the rooms...and the rooms were HUGE!

We had a very positive experience here, and I do recommend the CR. Plus...you cannot beat the 5-minute walk to MK. That topped everything off. If you pick North Garden, you will be a little closer to the MK.

I have stayed at both. They are both wonderful resorts. You will have a wonderful time whereever you stay. It is also easy to visit the other resort. During our last stay at WL, we ate at Concourse Steakhouse a couple of times. There is a small boat that circles WL/CR/FW (no particular order). Also, make sure you go over to Trails End at FW. It's a wonderful buffet resturant that is very reasonalbly prices. Go early, they don't take PS's & get BUSY!!

OK, back to the differences between WL & CR.

CR, the rooms are bigger. Their is a nice living room type chair & ottaman, plus a daybed/sofa. The bathroom is bigger. The toilet is in a small room off the bathroom. It has a mirror & outlet. So its easy to blowdry your hair & not distrube the others in the room. The main bath has a tub/shower,vanity plus 2 sinks. No vanity in the room itself. No balacony in the wing rooms. We had a nice MK view & could see the fireworks from our 2nd floor room. About a 3-4 minute walk to food court/lobby area. Good transportation. Though we found the ride to Epcot LONG! Mono to TTC, change (up & down the ramps) to new mono to Epcot.) No kiddie pool. We did not use the pools during our stay. Main pool & quite pool. No trees/shade near pools.

WL, smaller rooms, but still nice. The beds are high! Becareful not to bruise your shins!! Very comfortable. Bath - small, tub & toilet in main room (no mirror or outlet). Outside bath, 2 sinks, vanity. Thought it's setback from bedroom, no door to close so you can hear those blowdryers! If you have an early bird, it's nearly impossible to dress w/out waking the rest. Common areas of WL are about the most beautiful I've ever seen. We spent MUCH more time at the resort than we ever do. My dd LOVED the kiddie pool. The quiet pool was never crowded. The hot tubs (3) were also very nice. The water slide is much faster than it looks!! We never had a problem finding a chair. If you want a nice quiet area, go down to the beach. There are beach chairs & a playground. You can also rent bikes (regular, 2 person & surray). There is a nature path to FW (not lighted.)

All WL rooms have a balacony.
