I rented from Dollar and Thrifty on my last two trips. They are essentially the same company. No issues with them. I like to rent from them because they allow me to select my own car from the row (rather than being assigned a specific car). When searching, I have found them to be the cheapest, using only their city special for a discount. I am the only one who drives so I'm not concerned with a second driver.
Thanks so much PrincesCJM! I was hoping it would be easy. I managed to get nov 29 through dec 10 for a little under 200. Both Alamo and National were $150-$250 more so happy with your answer. Did you just do the register on line before you left to make it quicker at the counter? I didn't know you still got to choose your own car!
I rent from Dollar all the time. I usually try to rent exclusively from the rental companies at MCO that don't make you wait in line. I like to walk out to the garage, jump in the car & go. I don't necessarily care about picking out my own car. It's a nice option if I can get it but not a necessity for me. I'm a Dollar Express member. I've never had a problem with them. I've registered my info ahead of time including my CC #. I walk to the garage, see my name on the board with the space # my car is in, jump in the car & I'm off. They've been the cheapest by far of all the rental car companies for my last 3 trips. You can feel good about renting from them.
Never had a problem with Dollar. I've been using National lately. I don't know if this is still available but if you sign up for KLM Airline frequent flier club you get a discount code for their "partners" one of which is National. The rates for me went down pretty dramatically when using it. It also includes all the insurance coverage and additional driver for free.
If I do the on line registration/check in, I don't have to go to the counter or I do have to go to the counter?
Sorry for the silly questions, but I am so used to Alamo or National with no counters at all. It is just so convenient that I am really dreading any potential lines......
Thanks for the adivce, but that is the code I have a reservation booked with National, but it is $140 more expensive. I don't worry about all the additional coverage.
I don't enter my information ahead of time. I go to pick up the car while hubby gets the luggage. We tend to finish the same time. I'd also be concerned that if I didn't like the car assigned that I wouldn't be able to change it. I like to select a car with an odd/ugly color or one with out of state plates. Both make it a little easier to find in the parking lots.
