Please tell me about Christmas!

Hi,

we'll I know that Christmas 08 isn't even here yet but we are planning our next trip and are hoping to go for Christmas 09. We are looking at the two weeks prior to Dec 25th and flying home to UK on x-mas day.

Our home resort is SSR and I know that Christmas is going to be a busy time so I was hoping that someone could tell me about the chances of staying our first week somewhere else at the 7 mth window.

I have looked at the unofficial guide charts and the start/mid of Dec doesn't seem too bad? Am I reading something wrong?!?!

We will be hoping for a studio at another DVC hotel for 5/6 nights then are going to hopefully do a 3 night cruise (over the weekend) and then 5/6 nights at SSR.

My understanding is that I book in Jan for all the nights at SSR then at the 7 month window I cancel the first set (if poss) and re book the other resort? Our flights also aren't available until 11 months before so Jan 25th but I was thinking that SSR hopefully won't fill up that quickly and I can get the flights I need before booking which would open on 11 Jan if we did 14 nights.

Finally we will be using points from the following year by booking in Jan (our use year is Feb) is this ok?

OK, first based upon my experience this year, definitely book SSR at the 11 month window. Then at 7 months see if you can switch. A lot of us tried to change at 7 months this year with only mixed (at best) success. For SSR, I think that you could wait to book your flights. However, I had problems at 11 months at AKV this year when I waited until 11 months from the end of the trip to book.

On your UY question, are you saying that you are planning to use your '10 points in Dec '09? If so, yes you can do that.

I am using my 2009 points for Dec 09 but will be booking in Jan when my use year starts in Feb 09 so didn't know if it was the date of booking that counted or just when you stay?

I've even confused myself now !

Yes, you will be ok. It doesn't matter when you make your reservation. It just matters when the trip actually is. So booking a Dec '09 trip using '09 points in January is perfectly fine.

Christmas, well "It's the most wonderful time of the year." (sung to the tune).

And that is just for starters. Santa brings you presents if you have been a good boy or girl as well.

But more to the point, we go early December Every year and love it. Great time of the year in Florida, not too hot or cold, and the holiday decorations are up at WDW.

Seven month mark for the first few weeks of December has not been too hard as long as you are not too picky, so take my statement with some caution. IF you are looking to get something specific, use the others advice and book SSR at 11 months and when the 7 month window opens up, see if you get your other location.

My family loves going at that time of the year, and the other people at Disney seem to all be getting into the Christmas spirit at that time of the year as well.
