My DD15 and I are not understanding things the same way. Please enlighten us about room service on the Magic. My understanding is that there is no charge for any food on the room service, although we should tip the person who delivers it to us. Her understanding is that if she gets food (including a soda or smoothie) delivered, then she not only has to tip the person, but she also has to pay a 15% surcharge. (If it is "free", then 15% of $0 is $0.) Thanks for your help.

Food is free all you have to do is tip. You will be charged for soda & smoothies plus they add the gratuity to the soda & smoothie. There are other drink options that are free. So you are kind of both right.

Hi and Welcome to the DISboards:wave2:

I may be wrong but you are both correct.

Any food ordered from room service would be free, you should tip the delivery person of course.

Any chargeable beverages such as sodas you would have to pay for along with the tip to the delivery person. I don't know if they put the 15% surcharge on sodas but probably they do.

Sodas are only free in the dining rooms during meal times.

Hope this helps you.

Everyone here has it right. Food is free. Food includes milk, lemonade, etc. Soft drinks are considered bar items, and you are charged for them plus an automatic 15% tip. Smoothies are also a bar item. Soft drinks are free with meals in the dining rooms. Smoothies are charged at all times except when the club/teen program does a "make a smoothie" game.

So...all food from room service is free, but "bar items" are not. My DD LOVES ordering from room service, but I had to caution her that the cruise is totally different from a hotel!

All food via room service is not free, my teens learned the hard way. If it is a "snack" like you would get to go to the movies, then they charge for that as well. Mine ordered popcorn and M&M's one night, and we panicked at the cost of a bag of candy then we saw the size of the bag, huge! But it does say that on the room service menu and they did double check that we knew when we ordered it. But my girls ate their weight in chicken fingers and pizza via room service for free!

So do we still tip the server cash as well??
