i got the 18-55 mm lens and the EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Zoom Lens
i hope these are enough for my "basic" needs:rotfl:
also what is the UV haze filter for:confused3 sorry for my lack of knowledge:rolleyes1
TIA

...nor very "childy", but all of the photographs on http://www.stagepics.co.uk were taken with a Rebel XT (it;s called the 350D in Europe, but it's the same camera).

Oh, congratulations!

regards,
/alan

you can take a gander around my site http://gregghall.smugmug.com

Anything taken prior to 9/26 this year was done with an XT.

The UV haze filter really is only to protect the front lens element at this point. In the film days they were needed, but not so with digital. Lots of people including myself have taken them off and don't use them anymore.

As for your lenses, they will work great in decent light, but will suffer somewhat in low light situations. One thing I would reccomend is to get a 50mm f/1.8 lens, this will give you a fast lens for low light photos, such as the parades and rides at disney. It is only 80 bucks or so, so it is a cheap way to get a fast lens.

Second piece of advise is to get Understanding Exposure, and read it, when you understand the concepts make sure you know how to make the adjust ments on your camera so you can get the results your looking for.

Third piece of advice is to use and learn your camera now before you go to Disney, so you can get the shots your looking for, learning when your shots count is not a very good way to do it.

Finally the lenses you have will work fine for sports in good light, but if your indoors in a gym, or under the lights outside, you will probably find they are not fast enough to get your shots.

We also grabbed this at Best Buy this morning (DH stood out in 23 degree weather for an hour for it :rotfl2: ). I will be following this thread closely to find out what we need to do.

(Actually, his comment was, "I'm not really sure we even need that camera. I don't know how good it is." My reply, "Let me check the Dis Photography boards. They'll know!" Thanks everybody!)

This thread was primarily Rebel XTi users, but there were also shots with the Rebel XT: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1507622

I also agree with Master Mason's advice and can only add that the best way to learn with a Camera is to do - so take LOTS of pictures - it's the best way to learn the Camera's capabilities.

Not a whole lot of difference. Here are some of my first photos using it.

i just posted a few here a few days ago taken with my canon rebel and 28-135 IS lens( i'm slowly working on my 11 gb of photos, converting from raw.)

last post http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1641420&page=2

i also agree, shoot like crazy til you go so you can get familiar with it. i think the focus system might be different on the xti, not sure. personally i would shoot in raw as well as it give you more latitude to adjust in post processing . although you use a lot more memory, imo it's worth it( just set the setting for" quality "to "raw", first line first section in the menu on the lcd

ok ... please don't tell me i missed a great sale price on friday???????? i checked around but it didn't look like anyone had a great deal on it ...

i have been waiting to get this camera for months now and am shortly going to do it ... the best i have found is $449 for the kit.

was it a great price at best buy friday, if you don't mind me asking?

I got the XT this summer, and I love it. I enjoy taking pictures, but most of them are not on line as it's mostly my Disney pics on line! I have yet to go with my new camera, and it's torture to not be able to go!

Here are two that I took at a parade this summer, I'll look through pictures of my nieces and nephews and see what I can share. Picture taking is just a major (ly expensive!) hobby of mine, so I'm no professional!

i have a rebel xti and I love it! You should by a magic lantern digital rebel guide, I bought one shortly after I got my camera and it helped a lot. Also if you are wanting to learn a lot about aperture, iso, shutter speed, "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson is a must have!

you need to join the canon forum (if you haven't already), http://photography-on-the.net/forum/

The forum is full of canon photographers (professional and amatuer) who are willing to give any tips, tricks and advice you need. (it is where I have learned a majority of how to use my camera)

good luck and have fun!

I don't know if it was a good deal or not, but we bought ours on Black Friday at Best Buy. We got the camera, the bag, and an extra lens (I have no idea what kind.... I'm not allowed to touch this camera!) for about $750. (BTW- If that's not a good deal at all, I'm not sure that I want to know! :rotfl: )

What is a good lens for "in a gym for sports"? My DD is a competitive twirler and I needed soemthing that snap a lot of pictures in a very fast time and was recommended this camera.

I just got my Rebel XT for $450.00 today and am so excited to learn to use it. I can't believe how fantastic all the pictures you all posted are! I hope I can learn to take pictures even half as good as those you posted!

The XT will take 3 pictures a second, regardless of what lens is on it. when I talk about having a fast lens it has to do with the apeture of the lens, the larger the apeture (smaller the number) the faster the lens.

Personnally I use either a 24-70 f/2.8 or a 70-200 f/2.8 lens. I have the canon versions and they are not cheap. Sigma makes a version of each that are quite good, and about half the price. there are some others out there in that range, but I am really not familiar with them

Yeah I just ordered my XT!! I am so excited. I'll get it tomorrow ... I bought it for $487. I can't wait.

I was ready to throw my other camera through the window yesterday. I was trying to take some pictures of DS with the Christmas tree ... ARGH ... It didn't work. I took 120 pictures and not one worked.

I can't wait to try tomorrow...

it came today!!!!!

and for not being patient and reading the manual what are the first steps i should take with it before playing?
how long do i charge the battery ect.

if you put it on continuous it is pretty fast, fast enough that sometimes when you look at the photos they remind me of those flip book animations:rotfl2: but if you shoot raw it only takes i think 3 or 4 till you will get a "busy" for a second or 2, jpg is somewhere in the 20s if i recall right. it's "slow" compared to the 40d but usable for sure.

when the battery charger light turns green ( 90 mins, or so) it's done. really, i had a canon film slr and i needed to read the manual...over and over and over;)
