Please return calls babysitters!

What is up with the lack of common courtesy lately? I am getting frustrated with trying to get sitters to call back and let us know if they are available. We don't use sitters all that often, but when we do we always try to call in advance to check their schedule. I know our sitters are pretty involved with high school, sports, etc., but I would rather them call back and say they can't make it so we can try someone else so that we aren't stuck not having a sitter when we need one. I don't think they are avoiding us - dd is usually a dream for the babysitter. We pay pretty well too. Does anyone else have this problem? Thanks for listening to my vent!

I rarely wait for the call back. I call several, and I tell them, whoever gets back to me first gets the job. That way I'm not left hanging.

It's quite possible that they aren't getting the message, especially if you are telling one of thier siblings. I'd try them again, and mention that you had left a message with "X" last weekend. Or get thier cell phone number and call them on that.

Yup, I've had to resort to this too. There have been too many times that I have had to cancel or rearrange plans because I didn't get a sitter to call back, or one FINALLY decided to commit a few hours before.

I always call mine in their cell phones, to make sure they get the message. Mine are pretty good about calling me back!

Mine never call back, so I do the same as Tinijacaro - first one to make contact gets the job.

My super-awesome babysitter actually calls ME to find out if she's needed!! Babysitters of the world - this is a great idea. Try it.

Are you calling their home phone? Because let me tell you, I love my parents dearly but honestly, if you called my house and left a message for me when I was in high school, it would be 50/50 whether I got it or if I got "uh..you know...that woman called you about babysitting."

I left a message on a cell phone. I think I will go ahead and call others until I hear from someone as some have suggested. Maybe I'll try after 4 pm so I know they would be out of class.
