Hey DISers...

Just wanted to request that anyone visiting our beautiful beaches and city, please be extra respectful of locals, our property, and our businesses.

We had a rather unfortunate end to the US Open of Surfing this weekend, and everyone is still a bit frustrated with the mess caused by out of towners that we welcome into our backyards!

Please park in structures and beach parking, rather than private neighborhoods. Remove your trash from the beach and streets, and don't hassle the locals! :) I know that my DISer's can help recover the tourist reputation in HB!

Um, that happens to every city that hosts an event. That's the trade-off for the increased business and tourism those events bring to your city. If you don't like it, take it up with city hall for not scheduling extra trash pick up. Oh, and please don't come to my town either, as we don't like "out of towners" who go on a message board to wag their finger at others like they're better than us.

I absolutely appreciate your frustration! But please don't assume that only the out of towners are the ones guilty of the chaos the ensued on Sunday. We were there on Sunday as well and I would find it quite difficult to set blame to one group of people. As an out of towner, I find your post a bit offensive. If you would like to promote positivity back into your town, finger pointing is not the way to go about it. :)
BTW, we quite like Huntington and hope to visit again someday.
And just to add a smidgen to the previous poster, if you have ever been to a city where there has been Stanley cup playoffs, it happens there too unfortunately. :(

Agreed. Huntington Beach is NOT the only place in the world where you have tourists or rowdy ones. I live just outside of Vancouver BC, one of the top tourist destinations in the WORLD. I know. So maybe step down off your soap box now.

I doubt anyone who visits these forums are the type to trash a town. Most of us are kind, respectable family people looking for answers to make family vacations better. Not the young, disrespectable drunks who trashed HB

Yes... this is the point I was trying to make! I'm not trying to point fingers at anyone, rather, I was trying to explain why you might get some short behavior from the locals, and how to avoid it! :confused3 Anyone who has read my posts, knows that I encourage everyone to visit HB.

SMD, this hasn't happened in HB since the 80's, and it's not about "extra trash pick up". And don't worry, I avoid your city as much as possible.

Wow, you guys. You're kind of harsh to Plaid Princess.

It came out in the news that Huntington Beach was treated rather roughly, and she was just telling us about it, not attacking anyone personally, or here on the board, which is what some of you did to her.

I'm going to lock this now.
