PLEASE READ & COMMENT... will this actually work for us???

Just finished up on the phone with Disney and changed our ressie from 3 nights to 5 nights, but had to switch to Sports (does it suck there??). I also put my DH as the lead name, since mine is on the ressie at OKW. I don't see why ANY of us will have to "check out" of ASMo, we just won't be staying there beyond the first 3 nights - that's all.

We got our free meals and voila! It actually worked... still can't believe it. I still feel a little bit like I'm deceiving them since I did NOT mention we won't be staying there the last half of the trip and don't intend to. I will deal with the luggage transfer thing when I get there.

I did call OKW first and asked their take on it. The CM told me that people have ressies at 2 diff resorts quite often for various reasons... said there was NO way they could keep us from doing it. Cool! Very cool. Now I can start planning our meals for the rest of the 5 days. Think this might be our one and only chance to go to Hoop de doo!

glad you got an official "okay!"
and HDDR is our family's FAVORITE! YOU WILL LOVE IT!! ENJOY! :flower:

I guess I'm going to be in the minority here, but I don't think this is something you should do. If you do this you are taking the room with the dining plan away from someone else that could use the room. Sorry, but that is JMHO.

That is true, BUT, if I go to Target and find socks on sale, and buy up every single pair in my size, that is also taking away cheap socks from other people. So what?? I paid for them. People might be irritated to hear that I hogged all the socks, but I paid for them fair and square so I'm entitled.
My family is taking a room at ASMo 11/27-12/2. We don't NEED the room, as most of us (not me, unfortunately, wah!) live 20 minutes from WDW. Incidentally, we are doing this for convenience only...NOT to capitalize on any special offers, although I wish there were some offered at that time!! Are we "taking" a room from someone who needs it more? Well, possibly. Do I feel bad about it? NO! :rotfl: It's our money to spend as we see fit. If I never wore any of the socks, and put them away in a drawer to save for my grandchildren (um, my only child is an infant, so that would take a long time!), I HAVE THAT RIGHT! :cheer2: JMO

P.S. If Target wanted to ensure that other guests had a fair chance to also purchase inexpensive socks, they would limit my purchase to a set number of pairs, the way grocery stores often do on special buys. If WDW doesn't limit the number of rooms one family can pay for or use to take advantage of a special offer, then I say it's fine to take as many as you can afford if it gives you a financial benefit.

Ok, first you are actually going to be using the room. Secondly, if I go to Target to buy the socks that are on sale but missing from the shelf because you have bought them all, Target will give me a rain check and I can still get them for the sale price when they come in. Disney does not offer "rain checks" for their specials.

The OP asked for comments and I gave my Opinion on the matter.

The more I think about it - the better I feel about it. I bought the room with our hard earned money, so... hooray for us!!

And I gave mine. I don't see why you got so touchy. :confused3

I still think I'd stop by and put some trash in the room and jump on the bed!!

Moopdog,
Just request NO housekeeping during your stay. Don't put up a "do not disturb" sign - if that's up for too long they will have to check to make sure everything's o.k.

If it were me I'd be tempted to tell them - on moving day - that I wouldn't be using the room. You've been there for a few days already. If you don't want to sleep in the room they should not take away the "perks" you have paid for. I'm sure they will move you - the bellman who is getting your bags doesn't care if you are getting a dining plan - he just want's a tip :teeth:

Now why can't I pay for a room from 10/4 (to get the free dining), but arrive 10/7? I'm willing to pay the extra 30. it would cost...but the CM said no way. :badpc:

We have ASMo for 3 nights & then OKW (on points) for 5 nights so we only qualify for "free" dining plan for 3 nights. I booked the dining plan for our 3 nights last week and then mailed our payment in full.

I don't know how many nights I paid for at ASMo, but today I get the notice in the mail that has a mistake on it - has us at ASMo for all the nights. And it got me thinking. We'll actually save money if we keep the room at ASMo, even though it will be empty for 5 nights. We'll pay $77 per night (that's the value season rate right?) but it saves us from spending $110 for the dining plan each night that we're at OKW.

Will this work?? Is there a loophole to keep this from happening. I'd be paying for it (or maybe already did) so it's not like I'm ripping anyone off. I just can't believe this might actually work and save money.

I really need to hear comments on this please!!!
The way I have it figured out is you want to spend $77 a night to save $43 on dining.Would you really do a sit down daily if you didn't have the plan??
I only book one or two sit downs for a weeks vacation.
We enjoy being flexable and unhurried. If we're having fun at a park we can stay and grab a bite at a counter instead of leaving the park because we have a ressie in an hour at Chef Mickey's.
Think about the cost and if it really is a true savings for you.
Is it worth spending $395 for a room you won't use just to go HDDR?? :earseek:
Have fun on your trip.

Is there any way you can change your vacation so you actually arrive on Oct. 4th??

It's worth it to us, because we wanted to BUY the extra 5 days of meal plan, but it wasn't an option even to buy it since we're staying at the DVC those nights (they don't participate). So, we GET the meal plan AND we save $43 bucks a night... I don't look at it as spending the extra $400, because in the long run - we're saving money each day... we would have had to pay $110+ per night for the plan (IF we had been able to buy it) now we're only paying $77 per night. That's what it boils down to. There's no way our family could eat at Disney for less than $77 a day, so it's a good deal for us!
