Over the next few months you are going to notice some major changes to the way the boards are moderated. We will be decentralizing the management of the individual boards and the moderators will be assuming a much larger role in how their individual boards are run. You will notice some shifting of moderators as we implement this as well as additional new moderators.
We are very excited about this concept as we feel it will help each board become more responsive to the community it serves.

I hope with the new changes you will clearly state the rules that those who participate in the board should follow. That could be very helpful.

We are actually re-writing some of the guidelines to support this concept

Oh boy.

I hope it works.

I was going to ask if any of the rules would be rewritten. thanks for saying that. but I am sorta confused with the increased power the mods have. will they be like webmasters (in power), then what will happen to the wms? will they reach a new level of power? this is confusing.

I am so completely not sure I understand what you are saying Alex. Decentralizing the management of the individual boards? Can you give that to me in laymans terms?

Let me try....

Basically we are going to hand over a lot more responsiblility to the moderators, creating individual communities.
The moderators will decide, for example, what is off topic for their boards, decide who their fellow moderators will be, help our designer design the board. They will be responsible for the growth of their boards and what they do to help that.

This sounds very interesting, I hope to see it grow!

I'd like to ask for clarification as to the purpose /identity of the "The DIS Moderator Team" ..."they" have a user name and PM box .... and I forwarded via PM a "spam" PM on October 19th...my PM hasn't even been been read yet :confused3 even though the Spam PM was deleted somehow by someone...

I know the wm's and mods were busy that week, but I thought by sending it to the "DIS Moderator Team" it would be picked up by someone, rather than trying to determine which individual mod I should send it to. Someone on a related type thread said I should have sent it to a webmaster...but I guess that brings me back to my original point of confusion...what exactly IS the DIS Moderator Team and why do "they" have a PM box if the PMs aren't read?
And/or is this something that will become clearer with the changes that are coming?
Thanks for any insight!

thanks for clarifying!

Also can I ask a question/make a request.
I would really like to see a digital art board here. Thanks. :)

NHAnn, we recieved a LOT of reports on that spam so they didn't all get opened. They best way to contact us with a problem like that is to email a webmaster or report a post. The DIS mod team is a group that works as a team to deal with issues on certain boards.

poohandwendy, we are shuffling certain boards but I don't think it's going to be a lot of them

Reorganization ... everyone pack their cubicles! Alex, I will send you a red Swingline stapler. ;)

What is off-topic for a "community" board? Obviously resort, restaurant, ride, transportation questions have their own board, but I'm curious about what consitutes a "community" board now. :confused3

That was a generic announcement for all the boards, that won't change here for right now

Just wanted to bump this up and tell everyone while I won't be a moderator on the Community Board any longer, I'll still be around :) I also wanted to invite all of you budding chefs, craft addicts and scrapbookers over to visit me in my new home! http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=40
