bumcat
She is from NC, but her name isn't Evelyn. PM me if you would like her name and address.

Desnik - I am pretty sure this is a scam based on a search that I did. She might be using a different name on ebay.

spill the beans bumcat... i was going to give her my current paypal balance (just enough to buy a dinner or two) but I'm not going to if it's a scam.

Her name isn't Evelyn..and she isn't new to ebay..she has 80some POSITIVE feedbacks. I asked for a pic of her boy..and she sent one of him in the laundry basket that she just took...everything seems to be legit.. Yanno...how awful are we if she's telling the truth? If she's not..who are we to worry about it?
I've got her address and such...because I'm gonna send her a few outfits.. not money...nuthing that I have to go out of my way for.. but I would feel better knowing I tried to help...whether she really needed or not. It's obvious whether all true or not..she needs a friend.

I'd be interested to see the scam you are talking about..but I really don't think it's her...

I know... I mean some of the stuff like the eat my grits tshirt would have been given to her.... but a lot of this stuff looks like.... uh, well....stolen. She's got coffee mugs, salt/pepper shakers, clocks, the check holder.... lots of stuff that business don't exactly give away.

Not to be mean, but after reading her emails I think it is really scary if she did actually work for 911.

She's selling a patch so it might be true:

If she really does need the money, I feel quite bad for her because *most* of the stuff she's selling probably won't sell (do you really need a waffle house training manual?) or at least not sell the first time around. She's probably going to loose more money just in ebay listing fees... I mean, with pics and a gallery picture most of those were probably around $0.50... with 212 auctions she just spent $106 to list.

I did more research on this after I received her name and address. The address is listed in a mans name (Bob Smith), not the same last name as hers. Perhaps they are not married but that is not what she stated.

I did a search on her address. Here's what I found. The house was build in 1972 (didn't she say the house was over 50 yrs old?) it is 31 years old.
The house was purchased on 11/11/97 for 89,500.00.
Current assessed value is 87,901.00.
Tax amount is 715.00 and current.

Why do I get the feeling that most of the things she's attempting to sell are stolen?

And who buys this stuff? Waffle House aprons? Cash register keys? Mops? Medical Gauze?

Something isn't right.

Stolen or not, she seems to be selling everything in her cupboards.

I know we can have our own opinions about what she's doing but I would think that a scam would have more earmarks of making more money than this. As someone noted, most of her stuff will just barely pay her fees. I did notice she is not posting her shipping info, I wonder if that's where she's making her profit as so many ebay sellers do...

I do understand the situation. Truly impoverished people rarely get this desparate, why? because they have no access to debt. The middle class gets in the worse trouble because of their accessibility to money they cannot return. If she is in these dire straits, she needs help and hopefully she finds a way.

eBay has kept me on my feet for months now. I make as much on it as I used to on my old job! But it takes time, equipment and a little bit of luck. You cannot count on whoever wins a bid will pay, or you may lose out on shipping, there are plenty of variables. And, of course, everything does not sell. You just keep putting up stuff and crossing your fingers.

BTW, my sister has ALWAYS wanted to know how to make Waffle House's eggs! Maybe the Grill Manual will give her a clue! ;)

I've been reading through this whole thing and I don't know what to think! It seems if she were really stealing stuff to make serious bucks it wouldn't be a Waffle House salt shaker. It just doesn't all add up enough to be legit or fake. It is odd all around that is for sure.

BTW, I've known people who aren''t actually married who call their SO's their husband. In fact, I've know at least 3 quite normal people who couldn't get officially married for whatever reason but still acknowledged each other has husband and wife.

I'm on several eBay kids clothing email loops and I'm going to contact them about this and see if they know anything.

I do believe she badly needs money but I dont believe half of her story as to why she is in the mess she is in. As far as the waffle house stuff, it's possible someone in her family worked there and gave her the stuff, maybe one of them closed down.
I dont buy that she ran up 19 credit cards to pay off a large hospital bill. If you do the math her credit cards had to be over 5000-7000 each. How in the heck can someone with little income qualify for that? Maybe they had large incomes at one time and lost their good paying jobs and now they cant pay the credit cards. She probably did have a sick baby at one time I just think some parts to this story has been made up.
Either way, there's nothing wrong with helping a person if you want.
It sounds like she had the 19 credit cards while her husband was a volunteer, I just dont see how they would have gotten that many cards with her job only? If she paid 140,000.00 on 19 credit cards that would average 7300 on each card! Maybe she is paying off 19 credit cards but..... well never mind... just my thoughts..

I was looking at her auctions more and I feel like I should email her with some tips on how to get the most bids for the item. She is also using Gallery which ups her listing fee. For example,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2262&item=2550016739

If that goes for .99 she will break even after fees. If they pay her with credit card paypal, she will lose money selling it. In some aspects, she seems to really know her stuff regarding ebay, but in others she is making some big mistakes costing her money. Granted, she is losing .10 here and there but that adds up especially when you are destitute. I will at least email her, my time costs nothing.

Sorry I think it is a scam .

It sounds as though you are a good person just wanting to help out other.
Try not to feel to bad ok , I know it is hard because you feel as though it may be real and it just might be ......

"you will find the funniest stupidest hilarious thing you ever heard of selling, from me on ebay "

That was in one of her listings (re: her items up for bid).
