.... my nephew was found in critical condition last night. He'd been in a car accident... he was left in the snow... body temperature was 88 degrees when he was found... no brain injury, but completely unresponsive.... acting as though he's paralyzed, but nothing it certain because he's not speaking... one lobe of the lung is collapsed, the other is filled with blood... cervical spine injury? assuming hit and run ecuase they FOUND him in the snow?! Someone left him there to die?!?!?!

my younger nephew (his brother) was in a freak ATV accident two years ago.

Can't even comprhehend this right now... it's like a bad dream...

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry to hear about this. Your family is in my thoughts and my prayers. Sending pixie dust :wizard: and hugs :grouphug:
Please let us know how your nephew is doing.

~may God's grace be with your nephew and family at this time.

I'm so sorry to hear about your nephew. You're in our thoughts and prayers.

Hi Jill,

I spent last night in the ER too with my Grandmother. My prayers have been working for her so far, so I will definitely direct them towards your nephew. Keep your chin up and most of all have faith!!
lots of love
lisa

Jill- sending lots of hugs and pixie dust your way. I'm thinking of you!

Thanks to all...

I just got off the phone with my Mom and Dad (both physicians). They were able to speak with the attending ER doctors at UPenn. Right now, it's a waiting game. They are still trying to warm him up and run tests. Unfortunately, becuase he is unresponsive, there's no way of knowing what's hurting him or if moving him is only worsening the situation. Hit and run? Ice?

It's like deja vu. We got a call one beautiful summer night two years ago. It was his brother and he'd been in a freak ATV accident. Neither of these boys are dare devils or careless... the opposite really and super cautious. With Jon, there was actually a malfuction on the ATV's part... again, no one is sure what happened exactly becuase he was unconscious and has amnesia regarding the whole situation. They found him 20 feet from his shoes (how they came off still remains to be answered) and he was in a heap on an electrical transformer box. Jon went to UPenn, too. I am hoping we're as lucky.

No one except family in the immediate area can get to them becuase of the ice storm coming up the coast. I had to MAKE my Dad not leave West Virginia and drive in the inch of ice that settled last night.

We know he has some of the best medical care he can... and transfers to Johns Hopkins in this area aren't unheard of. It's just so frustrating... and no one wants to wait... and that's what it is at this point... a long waiting game.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I'm so sorry to hear this terrible news. I will pray for your nephews recovery.

Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Let us know how he is doing please. Hopefully there is nothing bad to report and he'll be ok. I give you lots of hugs for you and your family: :grouphug:

I am so sorry to hear of this. Please have faith. My brother was in a horiffic car accident a few years ago. He severed his main artery, broke all the bones in his face and had a blood clot in his lung, and he came through it.
Be strong,
I will be thinking of you all at this difficult time.

I am so sorry Jill..my prayers are with you and your family and of course for him!

Ongoing update:

It's come put that he was initially intubated wrongly on the field... the tube was down his esophagus and not his trachea. They suspect he was without oxygen for a minimum of 20 minutes. The hypothermia might be a blessing for his brain and the amount of time he was without air. He remains comatose with no response below the neck.

We've been asked to start preparing ourselves mentally and emotionally for organ donor/receipient match testing starting as early as tomorrow.

PLEASE pray.... please, please, please.

I'm so sorry to hear that. If there is anything that I can do for you and your family please let me know. Until then I'll be praying for you and your family.

Right now, prayer is what we have. The doctors can do only what they can do. I had a friend forward the informaiton to her prayer group... the more people, the more prayers, the better. I have seen remarkable things happen with prayer and hope this can be one, as well.
