I sent out invitations to my DS 6 and DD's 8 birthday party, which is next weekend. It is a bad weekend for a party because Friday is a Teacher Planning Day. One of the problems is that we are a football town so I had to find a weekend without a home game.

The RSVP responses have been dismal. Do I assume if someone does not respond they are not coming? I actually did not put RSVP since some people are confussed about what that means. The invitations said "kindly reply to..."

I end up calling anyone who hasn't RSVP'd. In many cases, the invitation has gotten set aside and the mom (or dad) has completely forgotten about it.

I've seen a couple of threads about this topic and yes it's frustrating when RSVP"s has been dismal to say the least. You can try to so a search on it.

Personally, I do remember that lot of mine RSVPs do come in 24 hours before the actual party. I understand it can be agonizing but be patient and they will phone in.

well, my DD got a invitation at school last Monday, She remembered to bring it home on Friday and by the time all was said and done it was forgotten about and the party was yesterday. So, no RSVP from us. We ahd a lot going on and the kids were packing friday night and getting ready for cheerleading the next morning. Sometimes it never makes it to the parents to reply to it and even when it does, it is too late to do anything about it.

My experience is that many people reply in the last day or two, regardless of what date you asked for a response, and when they don't reply at all, they don't come. But, I still make sure I have a few extra goody bags in case a couple of them do show up, and usually, I'll phone and try to see if I can get an answer.

Dd once received an invitation at school, put it in a little side pocket of her backpack that I don't usually check and forgot all about it. I found the invitation the day after the party, and dd was heartbroken she'd missed it. That situation convinced me to call, because I'm sure it happens quite often.

My daughter invites her whole girl scout troop and I see those moms every other week so I send out invited 4 weeks before her party and then I get 2 chances to see their moms prior to her party, the first time most tell me if they are coming or not, the second time I will ask the ones I hadn't heard from if they are coming or not. I did mail a few to kids in her class but those I haven't heard from and if I don't then I will assume they are not coming (though I always pack a few extra goodie gifts just in case.)

We just had a bday party for my dd and everyone but 1 person who showed up rsvp'd the girl who didn't just showed up. I made sure I had enough stuf just incase extra showed up. Most of the parents waited until friday to tell me and the party was on Sat. afternoon.

I had a Pampered Chef party a short time ago and only got responses from a couple of people! Just call and say "sorry, can't come" is all I ask! I count them as not coming if they don't call. I usually get screwed with this theory though!

I don't think being invited to a Pampered Chef "party" is the same as being invited to a birthday party.

Unless we've done something really special with only three or four kids, we've always had some people who didn't respond. My experience with kids' parties is that if they don't respond, they're not coming.

I got another RSVP last night, so maybe this week I will get a few more. It seems like MOST people do RSVP if they are coming, so I will just make a few extra treat bags. The extra toys I can use when I do the shoebox thing at Christmas.
