Please, please, please, never, never, never change the DL Tiki Room!

OMG. Iago as in Gilbert Gottfried! EW EW EW. That voice would drive me insane. Oy I feel bad for the CMs that work there.. Ick. Ick Ick.

Sigh...

Okay, you all DO realize that I am now going to have to add this to my list of things to see this coming week, right???

Thank you very much! :rotfl:

I like them both....the one at DL is a little more peaceful for a good nap....popcorn::

I ever so love The Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland, especially on a hot day! :)
Ah, there is Jose, about to be awoken from his blissful songster sleep, to entertain once again, all that for that I have ever seen, a most happy and eagerly awaiting audience! and if his show is ever disrupted by unruly movie ad dins, well, I shall have to chain myself upon his perch, in protest! keeping the wonderful tradition of this attraction is so very important to me, as I know it is for other people too, and these very strong sentiments, are the same that I share for the Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Haunted Mansion. Unfortunately, not everyone shares same said sentiments, I wish that all people would, especially corporate people.
It is so nice and entertaining to see the original show, still being performed after so many years of loyal service, as I sit to be entertained by Jose and all of his feathered songster, as well as singing flowers and tiki friends, I will think how it was a long time ago, that I met them all, as a child, and unlike other aspects of the park, it endures time, by being kept the way that it is, and I hope to god, that it remains, forever.

WDW Tiki was lame. Gilbert Godfried? Spare us! I've seen it once in FL and that was all I needed to avoid it like the plague.

The DL version is a sentimental classic and the genesis of the Disney animatronic. Back in the day the attraction had a separate fee and Disney would often peer in on shows in the shadows. I am happy to see so many love this aging attraction and I too hope it endures for posterity, although I wouldn't mind seeing a refurb of the building and garden area.

If you go on a weekday and get a little lucky you can see a "private" show with nobody but your party in the show. Early inthe morning and late in the day sometimes this is possible.

I agree that the WDW show is grating on the nerves, we saw it once and have never been back. But I hate to break it to you that the current DL show is not an untouched original! I believe they cut 7 minutes from the original a few years back, including the Offenbach number. It tightened up the show and most people agree made it better. Even classics need tinkering!

The Tiki Room is one place we didn't make it to back in March when we had our DL vacation. (We also never stepped into Toon Town, or went on Astro Blasters, plus missed a bunch of other stuff).

Needless to say, we are now making a list of where we MUST go while we are at DL next March so we don't forget anything.

And the Tiki Room is top of the list!!!

there is nothing wrong with a tweak here and there but do NOT change it completely. Oh man, no way could I sit thru Iago!! I would be leaving in the middle of the show.....:rotfl:

The WDW tiki room is truly annoying. They tried to update it and it didn't work. It doesn't have the amazing magical feel of DL.

I guess I don't understand the hatred of the Tiki Room in WDW. This past May was the first time in a very very long time I saw this show at WDW and I actaully liked it. It was fun, everyone was laughing and dancing. Everyone that I saw would walk out laughing or smiling. There were many people who for them is a must on every trip. I will be able to see the DL version in 2010 and until then I will watch the one in WDW for enjoyment and fun.

Thanks for the descriptions! I don't think I would care for the WDW one.

The DL one was new to us in March, as well. I thought it was very goofy but sweet. DD5 loved it and was singing the theme a lot, much to her older sisters' annoyance. She and I will still break into song when I mention it these days. "In the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room..."

Dh and I sat on either end of our family group and thoroughly embarressed the 2 older girls by swaying and singing along and making gestures for them to do so, too. :lmao: I just love embarressing my daughters. It's sweet payback for all those 2 a.m. feedings. ;)

Yes...Hopefully the rumor of the return of the DL show to WDW in time for WDW's upcoming anniv is true... Hopefully then we will all be able to sing like the birdies do in orlando again! :)

An additional nightmare to the DL Tiki Room was the plans to change it into a restaurant. I was so glad that idea got canned! You cannot change a classic such as that. Ever! :)

Isn't it sad, though, how so many attractions in DL (and in WDW too, I'm sure) have to be "updated" just to sell some more recent Disney films/ shows? The Jack Sparrow additions to PotC, for example, aren't really that necessary to make the ride any more enjoyable (and that last scene of Jack w/ his loot becomes a little annoying after the third time or so). The HMH overlay is okay the first time through it, but can't they keep Jack Skellington out of it for a little bit of October to at least preserve a more classic/ ghostly feel to the Halloween season? And, as much as the kids might like the Pirate's Lair theme to TSI, couldn't they have just done that seasonally, too? What's wrong w/ Tom Sawyer in Frontierland? Not current (recent-filmy) enough?

I just believe that when Walt predicted that DL would never really be finished, he didn't mean it as an excuse to just keep promoting subsequent Disney films at the expense of the classic attractions. Give me the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse, then. Country Bear Jamboree, too. I'll explain it to the kids how cool doesn't have to be current.

That sounds about right, it does seem shorter now and I think it flows better but it is not really breaking anything as the original magic that Walt was a part of creating is still alive and well in it's current state, even with seven less minutes.:thumbsup2

If I remember correctly, that was a plan for the Tiki Room - pre Disneyland installation in the 60s. That would have been before it even became a classic! :thumbsup2 Isn't that part of the reason the restaurant behind it was put into the design? When the plan changed, it became the Tahitian Terrace. Now, we know it as the (currently silent) Storytime with Aladdin theater.

I agree that the show in WDW isn't as good. But like a PP said something needed to be done to bring people back to that attraction. I guess it doesn't appeal to everyone but I like it and it is a nice relaxing show to take in during the summer heat! ;)

They used to run the original version of the Tiki Room at WDW - they were forced to change it to keep it alive as an attraction.

You have to understand - the folks that go to WDW - they have a different cultural/tourist mindset - they will actually get up and leave in the middle of a show they don't feel is valuable/worthy of their touring time. That's what happened to the original Tiki Show.

We were WDW regulars before moving out here to Los Angeles and becoming DL AP holders. For years, it was heart wrenching to watch over half the audience leave such a classic show - not even in the middle of it! When it got to be such a problem that management noticed it wasn't pulling it's weight, the decision was made to change it. Not a good decision, but one never-the-less.

Here in DL - we respect the classics. There at WDW - it's about how commando you can tour and how much can you cram into your day to get your money's worth, because it's your "vacation of a lifetime". It's not right or wrong, it's just the way it is.

I was blessed to attend the very last show of the original Tiki Room in WDW. People were crying when they turned on the lights (partially because the CM announcing the show couldn't hold back his own tears). They kept all the birds down and let us hang out and say goodbye. It was really touching.

BINGO!!! you hit the nail on the head (so to speak).

I agree, the DL version is fantastic, and as a Disney purist, I am in awe just of the idea that Walt's dream is directly input into the attraction.

However, the quoted poster above is correct. I live in Fl and visit DL now twice a year as well.

WDW attractions have to be more "cutting edge" in many ways than DL. WDW has more "new" or "first time" tourists each day than DL, and their expectations are SUPER high.

This is also why the Haunted Mansion Holidayin DL, does not happen at WDW. First, they want guests to at WDW, who may be new, to see the attraction as is, PLUS WDW can't afford to close the attractions so much during a year with so many new tourists.

This is also the reasoning they dont close IASW at WDW for Christmas decorations.

Listen, I'm more of a DL oriented person. I'm all about the nostalgia of Disney (the man). There are TONS of us here in Florida and don't worry to those of you in DL, we're all about protecting his legacy here as well. Many things have occurred here as a result of complaints from purists.

i completley agree! i went to the WDW tiki in nov. o7 and it was just uhhhhhhhh.........weird
