I have read the threads, and don't want to get anyone in trouble , but could you please make life easy for me on vacation....We will be on the DDP plan , 2 adults and 1 child. Without getting into all that I've already read, and not wanting to marry up childs credits and adult credits, and from what I have read, you run out of adult credits if they charge you all adult and on, and on, I'm thinking I have three options: 1) Just pay OOP for the child credit each time , I figure $5 a day isn't bad for no hassle. 2) Let them charge me whatever each time, and if I run out of adult credits, I have to have a meeting of the minds to get them to fix (not a very good option on vacation), or 3) Watch every charge all the time and remind the CM every time (another choice I don't want to hassle with on vacation)...............so what is the easiest to do. I keep hearing about "pooling" so if this is true I would think that I don't have to worry about anything and just let them hit as they may, but I also hear about "running" out of adult credits.....Really, if it's just as easy to "spend" $5 a day and no hassles, your opionion is appreciated.

I never found it a problem with the cashiers knowing I was ordering 2 adult meals and a child meal. I really think that people who have problems with the DDP are the extreme minority.

Besides, if you pay OOP for your children's meals, you will have a bunch of children credits left over and that would be a waste. Unless you think your child(ren) will eat twice as much.

Also, I'm not sure if you are saying this or not ( so forgive me if you aren't) but you definitely can not use a child's credit for an adult meal.

convience only, $5 worth no hassles, and just not using the credit.

I guess I just don't understand the issue. I certainly don't feel that paying for my family to be on a dining plan... then not using it, would be convenient.

I think the DDP is meant to bring convenience to families. All your meals are paid for and you can pick whatever you want (within DDP rules).

If you are afraid that the DDP would be an inconvenience then I would pay for ALL meals OOP.

I think there may be some poor assumptions being made here.

First of all, all of the credits are pooled. TS credits, at the very least are separated into adult and child, so for 7 nights, you'd have 14 adult TS and 7 child TS. (Assuming Basic DDP) CS credits, by recent accounts, are not split, so you'd have 21 CS credits total.

Of course, if you all eat the same time and at the same place, you'll go through those credits at the same time, so how they're pooled doesn't matter.

If that isn't the case, then at TS locations, it still doesn't matter much, because the adult TS credits are for the adults and the child TS credits are for the child. If for some reason, you run out of child TS credits, you could pay for the child's meal OOP while paying for the adult meals with credits. Or vice-versa if you run out of adult credits first.

For CS, it's a little trickier. If all three of you order, you can get 2 adult and 1 child meal at a time, for a cost of 3 credits. Or, you could get 2 adult meals for 2 credits, and pay OOP for the child meal. In theory, if you did this all of the time, you'd gain an extra CS credit per day to use elsewhere to pay for an adult CS meal. This is a loophole in the plan, but Disney seems to be in no hurry to close it.

So, is what you're saying is that they could get 21 adult CS meals, but only 2 at a time, and could then buy their childs CS meal OOP?

There appears to be no way to prevent anyone from doing just that. Since Disney did go through the effort of separating adult/child TS credits, but has apparently left CS credits together, it seems like it's not a high priority for them.

OTOH, they could start splitting them like TS credits tomorrow. They'd be fully entitled to do so to enforce the letter of the plan rules.

My opinion, and that is all it is, is that would be dishonest and I wouldn't do it.
