Please just try and keep a few things in mind...

I've been doing a lot of reading these past few days...

Now you all know of me and by no means am I "brown-noser" when it comes to vmk and staff. But even "I"... am getting a little frustrated with the recent attitude towards the game and it's doings.
We're so quick to attack vmk and I can't be the only one to have noticed that.
The server issues, monster maze, and then the most recent being with Karo and the everest cars.

I know it's one of those things... where the bads sometimes appear to be more present then the goods... but I just want to remind people of some things...


Server Issues:
I will be the first to flip out when I get disconnected from the game. Especially when I'm in the middle of a ghost game, or talking to a cute boy on the corner.

Then it hits me...
I do not pay a single penny to play this game... ok well exception to the money I may lose because I play this at work instead of working...
Look at the "quality" of game we get... for absolutely nothing!? I'm a toon town member... and comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges (or mountains in bella's case )
I can shop, change my clothes, interact, trade, play games... my goodness the list could go on and on!!
Maybe you don't see it like that... well go check out the habbo hotel, another Sulake virtual "world"... and you tell me which is better?! No comparison... not even close...

Then it hits me again...
How many people play this game again? How much "stuff" is in this game?! How many hits is that server getting?! How much am I paying to have access to this server?! Oh wait.. absolutely nothing...

Monster Maze:
Ah yes... I waited in the line... I made it through the queue where I was yelled at to move up and told my outfit was ugly... made it through about 5 rooms... and then BAM... "you have been disconnected"

Then it hits me...
Remeber the first ever staff event.. that "parade"... hah! Oh how far we have come...

Then it hits me again...
Lets think about this
- I had three start rooms to choose from
- If I went too fast into a teleporter.. I didn't get stuck behind a rope... I still got into the room (main enterance) just fine
- I HAD FUN?!?! omg go figure?!


Yet at the end of the day, I come here to people talking about leaving, or getting so angry with the most recent of issues. It gets to me sometimes.. it does.

Just try to keep in mind this...
NONE OF US... with exception to few... would have the friendships we do now, if it wasn't for vmk...
I'm sorry... but spending an afternoon with my girls is well worth any staff event mishap or disconnect!

The point of all this was to just say... that keep in mind EVERYTHING that goes on "behind the scenes" in vmk...
It's exactly in every aspect to a real disney park.. so much going behind the scenes that we NEVER see... oh yea.. and it's about $60 a day cheaper...

I play to have fun... and I do have fun! I could easily let every flaw of vmk get to me.. but why bother.. its not worth any effort!

I agree with u all of the way. PPL on the dis are really always complaining about crashing and everything like this(not that I have anything against the dis ppl because I think that they are AWESOME) and I am thinking to myself that it is a FREE game. I still have so much fun on VMK and for me it really is one of the best games online. Thx for the post irish. It reminds everyone that is it a free game and if u don't like it than just quit.

Keep in mind, also, that Disney is very likely throwing the *bare minimum* towards these servers and anything else related to the VMK project. Once upon a time, not so many years ago, I worked in Disney IT. I was a Unix System Admin for them running the Disney.com servers (right up until I was laid off with a few thousand of my closest co-workers, but that's another story) *TRUST ME* when I say, Disney is probably not putting a whole lot of cash into this project. Yes, it's getting some, but they are probably "time-sharing" the budget with several other projects (anyone else been getting the emails from Disney on some games you can download for a fee?)

For all the issues with VMK, from what I know of the environment they are probably working in, it's a rather impressive product. Yes, there are bugs. Yes, they test and probably not nearly enough. Yes, we want more new and better stuff faster than they can produce them. But it's not easy. I've run an online *text* adventure (more commonly known as a MuD) for the last 14 years. No matter how much we test & plan, we NEVER manage to get all the bugs or potential bugs worked out until the new code is 'in the wild' and players are actually interacting with it. So, while you are playing and spending time with all the new friends you've made, cut Disney a little slack and remember, the staff you are interacting with on a daily basis are probably the very ones who have the least power or ability to make any of the big VMK decisions.

(That said, I also think they could have handled this most recent Yeti chair situation better, but we don't know what all factors played into their decisions.)

Here Here I agree with your great post. Because of VMK I have made some firends. Spent a virutal New Years With Doom and even had to dress up. lol Alternative sitting at home with my DH watching the ball drop. No I got to spend it with my new friends or friends to be.

But most important I have made a great friend in Luvthattink that is absolutely directly because Tishke started Zeta girls with VMK. I no I would never have met someone so nice and our friendship is become very special. Which is amazing because we live thousands of miles apart.

So Yes I get frustrated with the constant disconnects but it is free. and it is new of course there will be growing pains.

I am also greatful that the people were not banned permanently and only 30 days. I think what they did was something a young person might think was okay because it was a gray issues. But It is also a lesson that what you may choose to do which you think is ok can affect others without your knowlwdge in a negative way. As we all sat and tried to connect for hours yesterrday. But changing a url because you have found a flaw is not right. The right thinking would have been to point it our to VMK. Hey they might have even given them free Yeti chairs or special recognition. Well they might have just ignored it too. LOL
A lot of times my DS decides to do what het hinks it right and sees no problems with the decision or consequences until we talk to him and say your intentions may have been good but you can never have true good motives from soething that was not first done on the up and up.

So I am glad these people will have a second chance to come back and play VMK. Normally they would have bben banned forever.

Ok, on to the subject at hand...

I have been addicted to VMK since beta and I am amazed at the friendships I have made and and the bond I have made with some players. I would never have thought it possible from an online game. I have been a memeber of the DIS since 2003 and have also found wonderful friends here to share my life with, so I guess it is only natural to have carried that over to VMK, but it still amazes me.

As frustrating as the problems with VMK are, I would hate to lose touch with all of my VMK friends and with that said, I suppose what Irish says is correct...it is worth it.

Oh and Irish, you just cant post on the DIS without mentioning me!! You do heart me dont you?

Thanks Irish! I agree 100%! I love VMK and all the friends I have made. I do post about not being able to get in, but really it is just so I know I am not the only one. If I lose connection in maze I just try, try again and yesterday I was able to win my purple doors! My day is just not the same if I don't get to log and and see all my wonderful friends! I pay for Toon town for my son and let me tell you, if VMK was not free and I could only pay for one, it would be VMK all the way. I seriously don't see why they charge what they do for that game. I am at a loss when I try to compare the too. Well put, well said and you are right!

I have met so many people here from all walks of life ( I Rush, you are my very first Hockey Player ! Where have you been all my life ? ), different backgrounds, different lifestyles, and a range of ages that never stops amazing me !
We all seem to have a common thread in our lives and that is Disney !
Our little characters have our real life personalities, even if we try to hide them, they still come through, good and bad parts. BUT as this community has shown, everyone fits in ! Art imitating life ? YOU BET CHA ! ! !
I thank VMK for the opportunity to interact with so many different people with the same fondness (or better yet obsession ) with that mouse !





There are problems with VMK....but overall........the BIG picture is more than worth it ! ! !

I too agree. I was a bit intrigued when I started playing, but I had not idea it would take over my life like this! and what a journey it has been. it has given me many a joy in friendships and in simple pleasures (like buying costumes!)

and yeah, it has gotten me to go to Disneyland even more than I did already! but it certainly is not a bad thing. I love going to Disneyland anyway!

I do feel for the staff. I used to work for.... Santa.... and the Easter bunny.... I took pictures of little kids (and sometimes adults) with them. for many years. and when the computer system would shut down and people freaked out you did what you could, but there is only so much control you have. it's hard to always be polite and nice when people are yelling at you. and I think it is easier to be upset with someone who you don’t have a personal relationship to and in this case can’t even see their real face!

sometimes yeah I get annoyed. but we all do! lol. it's VMK secret plan to teach us patience. But most of the time when VMK is not working, like Carrieberry I also am just trying to see if I am alone in my… non connected-ness to VMK.

and to boot, I am confident this game has turned into something way bigger than they ever expected it to!

so sometimes I get disgruntled, but I try to keep in mind: it's free, and they are doing whatever they can to make it better.

After being on VMK for almost a year, ( remembering the post VMK was open by marypops on the teen board...i blame you for the addiction, jk ). I couldn't be happier. yeah we said our things that make vmk look horrible, but at the end we still love vmk. These events are always a learning experince for the staff (Look at halloween till now) and each getting better. I have been very greatful for vmk, because now i don't sit home and do nothing, i sit home and play vmk. I am one addict fan of vmk (just ask my parents). Vmk has brought out some good in and like before i didn't know that i was a good gamer( well actually i kinda stink), but The one thing that vmk has brought to our lives is friendship. After this past year i would never would have thought that i would have my list would be completely full but it is and i thank vmk for that.

How long has VMK been around? lol Usually when the server is busy I get a bit too hot tempered because of my addiction to this game. Sometimes we are all guilty of getting caught up in this fascinating game! My sisters and I constatnly remind each other that this game is free and the most fun thing ever! I know most everyone on the DIS boards is the same. I'd be willing to bet we have more fun then we do get hot-tempered. But I must agree with the ppl that are always saying they are leaving VMK because of some silly reason like " My boy was sitting on my favorite chair and wouldn't get up!" lol It's plain ridiculous!
