We will be in WDW on election day this year so we turned in our absentee ballots a few weeks ago. DH was thrilled with the convenience and wants to do it this way every year but I'm pretty sure you have to have a legitimate reason for getting an absentee ballot, you can't just get one because you don't want to wait in the nonexistent line on election day. Of course if DH wants to go on vacation every election day who am I to argue?

That sounds like a legitimate reason to me. The one time I requested an absentee ballot, they did ask for a reason. I just said I was planning to be out of town on Election Day and received it. They didn't ask for any type of proof. I could have easily lied and said I'd be at WDW that day.

I think they DID put something next to my name in the election book to prevent me from voting in person.

We have been using this precinct for the last 3 years so haven't done a major (i.e. presidential) election here yet but we have never had to wait at all. Granted, it is a rural area and the polling place we use covers the entire township but still. Lucky for us, DH normally has Tuesdays off so we can swing in there in the middle of the day and get it done while everybody else is at work. Absentee eligibility depends on the state. Most states don't require a reason for requesting an absentee ballot. Some allow for a permanent absentee ballot status.

A few states have only vote by mail. They still have absentee voting if the voter is temporarily out of state, like a student or military members.
