We are taking a week long vacation in December. We are staying at Bay Lake Towers. My oldest DD is only staying for the first 4 days (she is a junior in HS and can't miss anymore then that). We are planning on doing the dining plan. Will we be able to use her unused credits? Or with the new "magic band" situation will that be a problem? Any info. would be great!

Here's the best advice you'll get: get rid of the dining plan.

Is it just the three of you or are there other children? The cost of the DDP for adults is $58.66 per night and you do have to get it for all of you for all nights. You can use her credits; they are given to the room, not to each individual person.

Ok. Thanks! That makes sense to me. Its me, DH, DD (17), DD (7) and DS (6). We are doing lots of character dining after she leaves (she's been there, done that) so we will definitely use her credits up.

Just remember that you adults will have extra credits, but your younger kids will not, so you'll have to pay OOP for them at your extra TS meals. You don't want to pay OOP for them at any buffets if you can help it. The cost of the kids' buffet is at least the cost of their DDP for the day. So, if you're doing a la carte places with your older daughter, you'll want to pay OOP for the younger ones there and save their TS credits for your character dining.

DDP credits are not tied to an individual person, they are tied to a room. So, for example you do the regular plan (1 TS, 1 QS, & 1 snack per day) and 3 people are staying in a room for 5 days. That's 15 TS, 15QS and 15 snacks for the length of your stay. However, if one member of you party has a big lunch and skips one of their QS meals, then another member is free to use it instead. As another example, often I don't use several of my snacks by the end of the trip so I allow other people in my room to have them.

If you do the dining plan and your daughter leaves early, yes, other people can use the rest of her DDP credits.

We love the meal plan and we definitely save money doing it with our large family, but you might want to crunch the numbers and see if you'd save money by just paying OOP. I only say that because of your daughter leaving...it might be cheaper not to do it. If you okay with paying for extra credits and think you'll use them, I'd say go for it. It's nice to have everything paid for ahead of time and not had to worry about it!
