My wife dropped my Kodak z710 today, :scared1: It still turns on and will take pictures but the lens will not zoom anymore also it will not focus. also, it will not load pictures from the usb port i have to take out the memory card and load it directly.

My question, for all you photography experts is Do you think it can be fixed? what would the average cost to fix something like this be, and would it be easier to just purchase another camera (I am sure it would be easier, just not as easy on the wallet  )

PLEASE HELP ME

Thanks,
Charles

This is just a guess, but I'll bet the cost to repair the camera would approach the cost to buy a new one. At present the Z712 is going for a little over $200, online. I'm not all that familiar with the Kodak line, but a cursory glance seems to indicate that the 712 is the latest model in the lineage to which your 710 belongs.

I guess you could send it to Kodak for evaluation/estimate, as long as there was no charge to do so. In the event that the repair was more than you wanted to pay, you could simply ask them to trash it and buy another. Not sure they'd look at it w/o a cc number, though.

Based on what others have said, your probably looking at 100 to 150 to fix it if they can. If it were me, I would replace it, but that's just me.

With both the lens and USB not working, my thinking is that it was damaged pretty bad. There could be even more things not working that you just do not notice. Even if it is fixed, there is always the chance that something that was not noticed might cripple it after you spend the money on repairs. I believe that you are much better off with a new one. There are likely models that are even better for the money now as technology changes at least every six months.
