We are flying into MCO on 3/30 and staying at POR until 4/3, and at that time we are supposed to drive to visit DBs family in Tampa. We were planning on renting a car from a rental place on WDW property, but wow is that more expensive!!

So is it possible to take magical express back to the airport to rent a car, or can you only use that service if you have a flight # out that day?

Also, if we decide to just rent a car when we fly in MCO to begin with, will we want to use it everyday to go to the parks with? It seems like a lot of work to park and find your car at the end of the day.... We do have 3 children, so maybe its good.... ???

Any feedback or experience??

You are looking at an expensive time to rent a car in Florida. It's spring break and the car rental companies know full well that a lot of people will be there and wanting to rent cars...so, the prices are high.
To answer your question..yes, you can take DME back to MCO to pick up a rental car, but you can't then try to take it back again on your last day. You get one ride to the resort and one ride back to the airport.

Have you tried looking at the car rental companies that have rental counters in the DTD resorts?? Budget, for instance, is located in the Doubletree.

Or, just rent the day you arrive, right at MCO. It's up to you to decide if you want to drive to parks. Many here swear by having a rental car to go to and from the parks each day. Others don't care for it.

I would agree with the PP...try researching what rental car companies are in or around DTD..

I don't have a rental at WDW anymore.... I like using ME and the Disney transportation system....it's too much hassle trying to find the car and driving out.....it takes too much time.

We have a very similar scenario - staying on property in April for 3 nights and then need to pick up our teenager who is on coming down with his marching band, but staying with us off property after they fly home. And we need to pick him, sax, and uniform up - so we felt like we had to rent a car.

I looked at a ton of different options - renting from the airport for the full week, getting one nearby for the second half, returning to the airport to pick up a car for the second half. They all came out to about $200-50. Ultimately, we decided to just get the car for the full week so that one of us wouldn't have to leave and rent a car midway through vacation.

They are expensive, I had hoped to find one for less, but we needed a midsize or bigger and that's the best I could find. Good luck!
