I have never stayed at either. I have not been eligible for SOG long so I have not taken advantage of it yet. My sister will be turning 30 @ the end of April and I want to treat her to a Disney Vacation, a girls-only trip (no kids too;) ). The reason I am considering Old Key West is because she was born in Key West. Our dad was in the navy at the time and our parents lived there. They took us back when we were pre-teen but we haven't been back since....so it's not like we are fond of that place, I just thought it would be neat.

Here is another question, if we go with OKW, one bedroom or studio? There is about a $500 difference in the two. Is it worth the $$ to get the one bedroom?

I would appreciate any advice. We have always stayed in Value, but now I am in a better financial situation and this is a special occasion, so I don't mind splurging for this one. I know we will be happy with whatever I chose, we do not necessarily have to have all the 'bells and whistles', but it will be nice to stay somewhere other than value for a change :yay:

TIA

I am going to include the rates for everything:
SOG-$504
OKW-$1,400 (studio)
$1,900 (one bedroom)
looking @ it like this, it is an easy decision...but thinking how nice it would be to stay @ OKW, I just can't decide. Please help me decide if it is worth the $$. Thanks

If it is just you and sister, the studio at OKW has two queen beds, plus a rather large bathroom. The one bedroom has a king sized bed and a queen sleeper sofa. Who gets the king and who gets the sleeper sofa?

OKW is not that far from DTD and you are just a short boat ride or bus ride away.

I like SoG as it's a nice hotel with queen beds. It feels more like a good neighbor hotel more than it does of a hotel that's on-property. Nothing really reminds you that you are at WDW, other than the Mickey Mouse statue in the lobby, other than that, it's just another nice hotel.

OKW is 3 times the price of SoG and you can have better for less money if it's just you and your sis. That resort is mega nice and you will enjoy the amenities of a deluxe disney resort.

If you care more about where you stay rather than the trip itself, OKW. If it's vice verse, then SoG. Ultimately you will still have a great disney trip with your sis and you'll have beautiful memories of it for the rest of your life.

we'll be at SoG in about 18 hours or so. I'll be honest.. It's just as nice, save the over obvious Disney references as any other resort on site, and the prices are pretty darn good, I thought. I couldn't get a room for what we are paying in any of the other Resorts, as we are not fans of the Value Resorts, so only look at the nicer ones. I figure I am saving taxes for one thing, the room rates are pretty darn good, even for our paygrade and we have all the benefits of a Disney resort Property at our fingertips.

I looked seriously at booking the Lodge/Villa at AK, and ultimately decided that for the money, SoG was a better option, and we can now spend more money elsewhere.

I don't need to be surrounded by Mouse ears 24/7, and in fact it will be nice to get away from the hype even for a smidge every day. besides.. the pool is Mickey Shaped!

Of course we try and go for 30 days at a time, but what you bring up is not something that is insignificant.

If relaxation is part of the plan, an OKW one bedroom lets one person sleep in while someone else can read or watch a movie in the living room. It also gets you a great big whirlpool tub. If the parks are your main objective, save the money But if kicking back and taking it easy in a luxurious atmosphere sounds good, go for the one bedroom.

thanks for the input. I'll have to think on it. Since there is a significant price diff, that will def weigh on my decision. She will be happy no matter where we stay, she won't complain or wish we were staying somewhere else. It is me who wants to upgrade :rolleyes1 I thought OKW would be a nice touch.

Thanks for your responses.
