We are DVC owners and love staying onsite. We are a family of 6 and find the convenience of DVC perfect for a Disney parks vacation. With that said, I think my kids need a change from the the usual Disney vacation.
GASP, (I know right!!!)
Anyway, as we are from up North, we like to travel over February break. Florida is the most economical place to travel and get a quick hit of warmth and sunshine.
I dont want to use my points for a non-park vacation. I have been doing some research and it seems that Bonnet Creek is a well loved resort. I am looking to rent but don't know how? Is the Hilton Bonnet or Wyndyham Bonnet best? (My range in age from 9-19. The 19 year old will only be joining us for a 4 days). We are looking for a great pool with a water slide, a bar and place to eat onsite, free parking, kid friendly and wont break the bank.
Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

hilton bonnet is a hotel

Wyndham bonnet creek is a condo and a hotel - the hotel has a separate name.
which do you want?

Wyndham Bonnet creek is the timeshare/condo resort. Most ppl find rentals for Bonnet Creek on Ebay but there are a few rental brokers you can go through like Vacation Strategies and I can't think of the other ones.

There is a We Love Bonnet creek thread in the Orlando Hotels and Attractions section where you can ask the BC experts a ton of questions about the resort. Just start reading the thread from page 1 and by the end of the day you will know more about BC than you ever thought possible.

You should be able to get a 2 bedroom for around $100 a night.

ETA: Wyndham Bonnet Creek has 5 pools, 2 slides, 2 lazy rivers, activity rooms, game rooms, free putt putt golf, BBQ grills and craft activities every day. You can spend a few days just at the resort enjoying the amenities. Especially with kids.

We are Wyndham timeshare owners so we will be staying exclusively at WBC from now on.

Thank you! I had no idea Hilton Bonnet was not a timeshare.
Does the Wndydham have a pool slide?
Wyndham Bonnet creek has 2 pool slides.

You should know there is no guarantee it will be warm enough to use them in February. The pools are heated, but sometimes its cold in Central Florida.

Just stayed here last week and LOVED it. Yes, two pool slides, lazy river... such a great place. I'm happy to know I can find ways to book the timeshare as we would love to go back (Stayed with friends who have a timeshare).

She may also want to try Farrell's Vacations, or one of the renters on myresortnetwork.com, or even ebay. It pays to get several quotes, as each renter may have different inventory and prices really vary.

Last May we rented from Vacation Strategy and would highly recommend them. The only reason I am not using them for my upcoming Sept or Dec trips is that Shelby Resorts gave me a better price for my Sept trip but Aaron Washburn gave me a better price for our Dec trip. Both are renters on myresortnetwork.com. A friend of mine used Shelby Resorts last May and was very pleased. I didn't find out about them until I'd already booked with Vacation Strategy. Her price beat the price we paid, but I think we both still got really good deals.

The grounds, room, beds, pool and lazy river were all awesome but if you are used to staying on site beware of the transportation. You get pretty spoiled staying on site. You can not get there any earlier than park opening, so no early reservations. At the end of the night the buses were packed. The buses were nice and always on time, but it just didn't work well for us and I am too cheap to rent a car or take a taxi!

I've looked all over- can't find Shelby resorts...how do I contact them?

As DVC owners, don't you get a good discount on AP's? Just a thought - if you're going back again at all in the next year.

I'm from just south of you (DC/Baltimore area) and agree - Orlando is usually a good inexpensive trip for our spring break/late summer getaway too.

If you want to do any parks, two years ago we bought a pass from Sesame Place that got us a year at the AB theme parks (Busch Gardens, Sea World, Aquatica, etc...) and it was way way cheaper than Disney tickets (included premium parking too and a great discount on Discovery Cove) so we tried that for spring break for a change. It was way cheaper, and fun, but of course not Disney. DC was a hit though - super duper fun day.

Just a thought - I have gone to Orlando (pregnant so not feeling well and it was dangerously hot) with my DH since he had a conference, and didn't do any parks. I did miss it, but wasn't up to it, so instead spent a lot of time walking around Disney resorts and had lunch at one every day (in the air conditioning).
