I found out one of my son's friends does not have working seat belts in the car. The mom is single and her children are 9 and 12. They have been riding around without seat belts :scared1:

The mom told me that she looked into it and they would be $90 each to be repaired.

Is there a company, charity, organization, anyone who helps situations such as this one? She struggles to buy weekly groceries, so there is no way she could afford this.

Please help me, help her. I am just so worried about those children. We just moved to West Virginia and the roads here are VERY scary. Deer and curves are everywhere.

Any way your family could contribute and then ask family and friends of your family to help? How about if you go to church, etc to ask them for donations to help? Have a car wash or yard sale to help raise money. Ebay some stuff? I think it is great you are trying to help this family.

You could try calling a local auto repair shop and they might know of a organization that could help or if your school system has a technical center that has auto mechanics, maybe they could help.

She should take the car to the manufacturer dealership. Most manufacturers put a lifetime warranty on seatbelts. My Pontiac carriered a lifetime warranty on seatbelts.

I thought the same thing. Go to the dealer.

I don't know the brand of her car. I will have to look at soccer practice on Thursday.

Not sure what her state is like, but mine would cost more than $90 per child if she was ticketed!

If your husband or other family member is handy, maybe someone to get the replacement seat belts from a junk yard and replace them, if it is the "female" end of the seat belt. I think they are only a few dollars each. They are easy to replace, just a bolt under the seat.

As for the lifetime warranty, I have heard Honda does that, but not sure if it is true.

i have a 92 honda (in a few months she will be vintage!). the seatbelt was not working properly when i go her. checked the manual and it was a lifetime warranty so i got it fixed for free at a dealer.

check up with the dealer and see what the warranty is. the only thing is they may not cover it if she has previously had it fixed. the muffler on mine was a lifetime warranty but the previous owner had it fixed with another brand and now that warranty is null & void. :headache:

I second the recommendation to go to the dealer. A friend gave me that tip when we had problems with a back seatbelt on my Venture and sure enough the local Chevy dealership fixed it at no cost. I'm not sure how long exactly that protection lasts (my van was about 8 years old at the time) or it if varies from dealership to dealership or brand to brand, but it is worth at least checking on.

I know that Nissan does free seat belt repair as well. I would imagine all the dealers do, because of liability issues.

I used to work for Customer Assistance for Chevrolet. No matter the make of the vehicle, I would have her take it to that brand dealer and just flat out ask them to cover it. Short of some sort of of gross damage/neglect (like cutting out the seatbelts or using the veh in a smash-up derby)_ GM will always replace seat belts. Just too big of a liability issue on this basic a safety item.

Gotta think other makers do the same thing. I do wonder though how all of the seat belts failed. that's kind of unusual.
