Hello! I'm hoping you guys can help me. I have a trip booked for my husband and myself and our two kids for 13 nights at AKL. My mother-in-law wants to join us for a few days of the trip. I do not want to bother with adding her to the room if I don't have to. That means she isn't eligible for ME. I called Mears and they don't do round trip to the Disney Resorts? I was hoping not to add a great deal of cost to this. Any suggestions?

Also, one of our kids is a one year old. If our room capacity is 4, they don't count infants, right? So could we add her free of charge?

In a std room at AKL you are allowed 4 +1 child under the age of 3. So you can still add your MIL with no problems.
And I really do think that your MIL will need to be on the reservation in order to use ME since it's a benefit of registered WDW hotels guest.

Disney does assess a fee for each adult over two. So your MIL will not be free. You will be charged an additional fee each day as she will be the third adult in the room. At the deluxe resorts I believe it is $25.

Mears does do trips to WDW - you can book from MCO.

However (and it may not matter to you), but if MIL is not on the room reservation, she won't have a KTTW and won't be able to use the EMH or dining plan.

Everyone Must be listed on the Reservation at all Disney Resorts. You can add her, there will be a fee BUT only if one of your kids is under 3 for a standard room OR you have a Deluxe Room or a Villa that sleeps more than 4.

Wrong! Disney charges if more than two adults are in the room. At a deluxe it is $25.00/night. My mom travels with my husband and me and we have always had to to pay the fee for the extra adult, even though there is just three of us in the room. I know it's $25.00/night at the deluxes, $15.00/night at the moderates, and I believe $10.00/night at the values. The baby will not count toward the room occupancy limits, so they can legally add her, but because mom will make three adults in the room they will be charged that extra adult fee.

She can go to the Mears counter upon arrival at MCO and pay for a r/t ticket then. It will be about $30 or so. She will more than likely be put on a DME bus at that point, after paying.
But as mentioned, she won't have a room key which will entitle her to any EMHs, so she wouldn't be able to do any attractions during EMHs.

I would just add her to the room reservation..then pay the addtl $25 per night if Disney does charge you for it. Makes much more sense than worrying about booking a shuttle ride.

joined DBr & I last year, I went to the front desk to add her to the room for the 3 nights she'd be there. The cute CM at the counter asked her age and then said, "Don't kid me, you're not a minute over 17!!!", handed her the KTTW card and sent us on our way. My guess is your MIL probably won't get away with that!!

:rotfl:My mom's in her 70's and never did. I guess she's not cute enough.:rotfl::rotfl: We've always had to pay the fee for the third adult, even though she just made three total in the room.:rotfl:

I have heard that happens quite often. So the OP may luck out and not have to pay the extra adult fee. However, that still leaves them with one person not being able to use Magical Express to the resort. So the OP can either add them before the trip, and pay the extra night charge, or pay for transportation to the resort and hope they don't get charged the extra adult fee. Which they may end up paying anyway.

However, I agree with everyon else that the OP does need to add the extra adult to the reservation. It isn't that big of a bother, and is just the right thing to do.

Do you have a room only reservation or a package? That will make a difference if you try to make the change prior to your arrival. If it's a room only, it's not a big deal -- just the $25/night extra adult charge (which, in my experience was not charged one time and charged two other times when my mom and dad joined DD and me).

If it is a package and you try to add her now, I believe you'll have to get for her whatever package entitlements you currently have for the rest of your group. That can get pricy with tickets and dining. In that case, it might be better to add her after you arrive (but I'm not sure how that impacts ME).

I know that wasn't your original question, but I just wanted to throw that out there for you. Others will chime in if I'm way off on this -- and I'm sorry if I am.

If the MIL is coming in later than the group, they can add her at the front desk, which puts her on the room, and makes her eligible for ME. That doesn't work if she's arriving with them, or really close to them, though.

She is coming after we've been there for 6 days. She'll be there for 7 nights. Guess that puts me at $175. I assume tax goes on top of that.

We have the room and tickets booked separately since we weren't sure if we were going to take her when we booked the trip.

We need to get her from the airport to the hotel, so we will have to book it ahead to make her eligible for ME. Otherwise, I'll just be paying for a one way Mears and the additional adult as well.

Actually, you don't have to add her until you get there (since you get there 6 days before she does). You can add her when you get there and she'll still be able to take DME, since you'll have added her before she gets there.

If you aren't on a package, it doesn't really matter though (if you were on a package, adding her after you get there would have meant that she didn't need to have all the same elements of the package).

She can go to the Mears counter ... But as mentioned, she won't have a room key which will entitle her to any EMHs, so she wouldn't be able to do any attractions during EMHs.
... and wouldn't be permitted to stay in the room. So might as well ...

Yes, this will work. Just add her to your reservation when you arrive at the resort. After that you will have to call ME and give them her flight and resort information. This has to be done before her arrival day.

Thank you to the people who answered this question without passing judgment.

I find it frustrating when I ask a question and receive responses that are questioning my ethics. I have given an obscene amount of money to Disney, as many of you have, and am not trying to cheat Disney. So telling me what "the right thing to do" is, isn't really relevant and is actually quite insulting.

It is actually relevant. One of the rules of the Disboards is to not post or help people get around any of Disney's rules. As you are fairly new, you may not know that. No one attacked your for it, just let you know. You stated it would be a hassle to add another person, we were just pointing out it would be an even bigger hassle if you didn't add them. And could in fact ruin your vacation.

All of us spend an obscene amount of money at WDW. So I don't see how that is relevant at all.:confused3 But anyway, I am glad everything is going to work out for you.

Now I am confused! :confused3 A typo?
