Ok so I felt I might be pregnant and my period isn't due till the 12th but I took my daughter to the dr today and asked if they could do a blood test. It was positive! We have only been trying for a month lol. We leave for WDW on 9/15. Obviously I can't have any frozen alcoholic drinks but what about the rides? I will be about 5 weeks when we are there. Please let me know what you guys think. :)

The one time I went with DS I thought I might be pregnant so I avoided any of the big and jerky rides. Turned out I wasnt (I was bummed too because I really wanted to ride Mission Space). I wasnt taking any chances because of my age and how long it was taking to get pregnant the second time. Well it ended up taking a year exactly and the next time we went back to WDW I was even more cautious.

Drink lots of water, have a map to find all the nearest bathrooms. Smells may be a problem for you, especially if youre having morning (more like all day) sickness. Take frequent breaks in the shade or ac. If you can, put your feet up. Wear a hat and sunscreen (avoid getting the mask of pregnancy on your face). Avoid spicey and greasey foods. Some people use ginger pills to help with the nausea. Ginger ale might work too. I had a pressure band I wore around my wrist but it didnt do anything. I also got one of the electric stimulation bands and that helped some (they have a version for pregnancy but you need a prescription. I just bought the sea / travel sickness version at our boat store). Carry some Tums for heartburn (I had it soooo bad with DS, but none with DD). Avoid rides that have warnings posted, ones that spin, bump around, or bump into things. My idiot husband thought it would be cute to ram my Indy race car with his. I wanted to kill him! Some people still ride some of the risky rides as I call them, but like I said, I was paranoid and didnt want to lose this baby. After a year of trying, and being up there in age I wasnt taking any chances.

By the way, CONGRATULATIONS! Have a great time! Enjoy your last few months of freedom too.

Congratulations!

As far as drinking--you can still get frozen drinks made without alcohol. And for the rides, personally, I'd never take any chances--no matter how pregnant I was. That decision would have to be yours and your families.

Have a great time!

Thanks for the replies! Here is the list of rides I think I should avoid:
Tower of Terror
Rockin Roller Coaster
expedition everest
all the mountains
mission space
dinosaur?
Any others?
Thanks for the comment about the pregnancy mask, I've never had that before (this is my 3rd baby) but maybe the Florida sun increases the risk?

Congratulations! What advice did your dr give?

Oh CONGRATS!!!!! :grouphug: That is SO exciting!!! Maybe you could call and ask your doctor before you go? They'd probably be able to give you a list of okay and not okay rides!!!

Wow! :sunny: I JUST got married and even though my DH has two little ones from his first marriage his daughter is POSITIVE we will be having a sister for her soon...we are thinking about it...I am anyhow...a lot. We want to wait a year or two...pay for the wedding...but it's an exciting thought! Maybe we'll be pregnant when we take the kids to WDW next summer...hmmm...

well congrats and have a great time! Be sure to get a pic of "baby's first trip to Disney"! My cousin did that with Mickey putting his hand on my cousin's belly! It was SO cute!! It's in a dual frame next to my cousin's husband doing the same thing. Now if you ask Caitlin to point to daddy patting her inside mommy's tummy she goes and points to the Mickey picture instead of the pic with her daddy!!! :rotfl: Disney SCANDAL!!!! ;)

Congrats!!

I was just about in your situation during our trip 2 years ago. I found out right before our trip and was about 5 weeks along when we went.

As far as morning sickness goes, 5 weeks is usually too early to have symptoms, so I was able to eat pretty much everything (the nausea hit a couple of weeks later...whoa)

And as far as rides go, I probably shouldn't have gone on some of the ones that I did but I had absolutely no problems afterward. I went on everything except M:S, SM, TT, Goofy's Barnstormer and Star Tours. I basically tried to avoid all of the ones that were real bumpy and jerked around a lot. I did go on RnR and ToT because I felt like they would give my stomach that "falling feeling" but were fairly smooth rides.

Ironically, the most severe warning for pregnant woman in all of Disney is for Goofy's Barnstormer...there are signs everywhere!!

And one amusing tale...when I worked at WDW I worked at Body Wars in the WOL pavilion. If we saw a woman who looked like they were expecting, we were supposed to ask them if they were expecting and if so, try and persuade them not to ride.

Well...I never really asked unless they REALLY looked pregnant. But I asked this one woman and she wasn't and she had an absolute fit!! It was the most horrible, embarrassing moment and from then on I never asked another woman that question again! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Good luck and have fun... :)

We went when I was 12 weeks, my Dr said that earlier I could go on roller coasters because the baby was still behind my pelvis. However at 12 weeks he wasnt anymore. I would talk to your Dr. and go with what he/she says. Make sure to drink lots and take breaks. But most of all have fun.

DH and I are trying to get pregnant, but no luck yet, in the mean time all the more Disney for us!!! Anyway, this may be a stupid question, but can someone please explain to me why you are not supposed to ride the bumpy/ jerky rides early on in pregnancy?

I've been 2 times while pg (see sig). The first time I didn't know yet, but by the end of the trip I was really getting sick to my stomach. I rode all of the jerky rides, and everything was fine. At that stage of the game the jerky rides aren't really a problem because the little buggers are pretty safe in there. Later on I wouldn't risk it, but if you feel safer avoiding them, then there really isn't a reason not to. Just be aware you will probably be more sensitive to lights, sound and motion.

Ask your Dr. for a prescription of Zofran. It is nice to have just in case, you don't want to ruin your trip with morning sickness, or with the drowsiness that phenergan can cause. It's also very safe, but it costs a ton more, so your insurance may give you a hard time. We have military insurance, so I can get it no problem.

Drink tons of water, even more than you think you need. Eat regular meals, and rest when you feel like you need to. Basically, follow your body's clues. Have fun!

I was always told "you can't shake a good thing loose" that being said ithink your list looks good. When preggo with little man I was 3 mths on our cruise and I asked my Dr. about having a drink while on the boat--he said an occasional one was fine just don't have more than 1 at a time. So I had a drink at Palo's and we shared a strawberry daquiri on the beach at Castaway. The remainder of the preg. I had nothing.

Congrats!!!

I was somewhere between 2-3 months (depending on dates they used) when I went last summer.

I so much wanted a lava flow (or whatever it is called at the Poly). My dh got one so I did have a sip & it was so good but I just sucked it up & drank my water.

I didn't care about the rides (2nd trip not caring) since I had been on all/most of them in my previous trips & now it is about the kids.

Obviously do whatever you feel safest doing, but there should be NO reason if you only 5-6 weeks along to not go on rides.

The baby is so tucked in there and well protected at that point more than any other.

It is actually more of a concern to take your prenatals (lots of folic acid), and avoid any food that could cause food poisoning, etc...

Have a fun trip.

Just wanted to say Congratulations! I'm headed to Disney in December and I'll be six months pregnant with my third! I hope you have a fantastic trip. Good luck. -Lesley

I think Star Tours and Kilmanjaro Safaris have warnings as well. They can be on the bumpy side.

My morning sickness with ds#2 started before I even knew I was pg. And then I was sick for 6 months. Have fun and congrats!!

thanks so much for all the replies and well wishes! I actually don't go to the dr till next week. when I had my blood test I was at my daughter's clinic(I love the pediatrician there but I prefer my ob who's across town). I am interested to hear what she has to say about our trip. The only ride I'm going to be sad about missing is expedition everest so I'm going to talk her about that, especially since some have posted that it would be ok. I have always had normal pregnancies with horrible all day sickness beginning around 8 weeks, I hope this is the case with this one.
I think I will order some bottled water from staples and have it shipped to the resort. I just don't know how many bottles to order. I have 2 kids ages 4 and 6 and then it's just me and hubbie. Plus we are on the dining plan and I always order water. We'll be there 9/15 to 9/24. Let me know if you have any ideas.
I am so much less nervous about this trip because of this thread. I never thought I would get pregnant so fast, if anything I thought I would end up with a special souvenir. :)
