Please help new DVC member

Hi, I am new to the DVC and hope you can help me.

We bought into SS, but my DH decided he wanted our first trip to be at OKW (he really liked POFQ when we were there, so he is adjusting slowly). Anyway--we go in January with my IL's (mom, dad, sister and husband) and 4 in my family.

When I made my first reservation, I did not want to use all of our points for getting everyone else rooms, so I did some cash and some points.

Now today my best friend calls and says her husband got a great raise at work, so she and her family (4 plus a crib) want to join us in Jan.
Can I just book another room for all cash for the same week at OKW? Or do I have to cancel all of what I already did and spread points/cash around three rooms?

Hope this is not too confusing to you and you can help me!

Depending on when you are going in Jan, you may or may not be able to get a room. If your friends have the cash, tell them about the Rent/Trade board and have them rent a reservation from a member. No need for you to pay for everyone's lodging if you don't really want to. They could also pay cash through CRO. If you get a discounted cash reservation through MS, you'll have to stay in that room. You are only permitted to book one room on Member Discount.

Only members (& their immediate household) are entitled to member benefits/perks such as the room discount. I am guessing you might be able to book thru MS (if you wanted too) at rack rate for them since you will all be traveling together but am not 100% about that.

So much easier (IMO) to just have your friend book thru CRO on her own & pay on her own. If you all wanted to try to be close to one another then just have CRO & MS cross reference the res #'s on both asking to be close if possible.

There are often some good AP discounts in Jan so she might want to keep that in mind.

Before you get all wrapped up in treating the entire world to your DVC, you might want to read a couple of "the in-laws (or outlaws) done done me wrong" threads. Or...as someone aptly described them - the "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished" threads.

Our best trip ever was when we took two elder relatives (GM and GA), but not everyone's experience is positive. At least once a month, we get an anguished thread here from someone who committed a bunch of points to a wonderful vacation for a lot of folks and then they started backing out. That usually happens when they get over the fact that the lodging is going to be free and start adding up their out of pocket cost.

Thanks for the tips, sorry I posted this is the wrong area---I see it should be under "planning".

The family members that are going with me go every year in Jan; so I should not have any nightmares with them. We have our routines and our things we all know we like to do together, and things we do apart.

Putting in another family will be interesting, to say the least. I think I will let her get her own room, and I am NOT changing all of my ADR's at this point.
