:confused3 OK guys I sure hope you can help me out.
My husband and I and our two children are going back in either Oct or Nov of 2006. And we're taking my sister and BIL with us.
Our first plans were for Thanksgiving week ... leaving on that Tuesday and coming back that Sunday, but now what I've read is that it is crazy then so I decided to look at other dates. So...trying to not take the kids out no more than two days of school, I came up with the week before Veteran's Day , leaving around Nov. 7th, but then I heard that is Jersey week as well as Soap weekend as well as Veteran's Day weekend. Do I have all of that correct? If so, that is probably going to be just as busy as Thanksgiving week (or not?) .
Now, I'm looking at around Oct. 30. The kids have only that day off but we might could swing three days out. What do you guys think is my best bet on crowds, etc.? And I saw where it looked like Jersey week would be in Oct. next year but then read on another post it will be that Nov. week.

Sure hope you can help...I'm so confused as to what to do?! :headache:

I think Disney is busy all year long now. But, not busy to the point where the trip is miserable.

We travel mainly in Oct/Nov. Both of those months have more moderate weather and manageable attendence levels. But, there are some spikes due to Food + Wine festival, Mickey Halloween Parties, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, Super Soap weekend, and Thanksgiving. Having been there each of those times, it's not crazy busy every day.

I'd say book what you want and don't worry. :)

You are one that offers some good advice . I'll be seeking more advice from you in the future! :teeth:

And you know what? I have a bottle of wine that was a Christmas gift that is chilled and waiting on me. I don't guess it's too early to get into that. :drinking1

But I still don't know when to go to Disney World!!! Hehe!

We've been to WDW three times now during "Jersey Week" and while it is more crowded than typical slow seasons of September, January and February...it is still very much manageable! My understanding, although I don't speak from experience, is that it will be far less crowded than over Thanksgiving. I think that if you utilize your fastpasses and plan your days with EMH in mind, you will have a wonderful time in early November.

We LOVE the weather this time of year...it has always been warm and pretty dry! If you can get there for MNSSHP that is a bonus! That is a wonderful party and the parade/fireworks that accompany it are outstanding!

We also adore Food & Wine fest at EPCOT....while it brings more people to WS...it's still not overly crowded there. We enjoy tasting (and drinking) our way around the world! It's really a festive time of year at WDW.

So...I wouldn't worry too much if your plans bring you down there at Jersey Week....there are more positives IMHO than negatives!

Good luck with your planning and feel free to pm me if you need any specific advice!

Cheers!

We normally go the 3rd week in Sept when crowds are very very light. Picture going on and off rides without waiting in line - including Dumbo! Ok now let's give you the visual during Thanksgiving ... wall to wall people. I mean everywhere! It was a bit overwhelming for us. My DH and I decided we'll never go back during the holiday.

I have heard Jersey week is very crowded as well. I understand from cm's just as crowded as Thanksgiving.

I think there's a holiday on a Monday in Oct. My guess would be the World will be crowded during any holiday as most kids have off from school. We like to go in Sept because the kids are mainly reviewing from the last year and don't miss much. I'd try to work it out that way. Good luck planning!

We went Oct 8 - 15th which included Columbus Day and it wasn't too bad. The crowds were lighter after the holiday and we had a very enjoyable trip.

We were in WDW for Jersey week in 2002 and while it was pretty crowded, it was still manageable. We had never heard of Jersey Week before that trip! Now that we know, we will avoid it in the future, if possible. This year we are going the week before so we will be there for Halloween and the first week of November. My daughter will miss four days of school as her school is closed for a religious holiday Nov. 1st. I think there is historically a higher liklihood of storms / rain in early October as compared to late October or November - but you never have any guarantees on that front!

I don't think you can go wrong, whatever you decide! Have a great trip.

Just went this year for Jersey week. The crowds were dooable untill Thursday, Will never do parks the last weekend of that week again. It was veterans day also and last weekend of F and W. Waited over an hour and a half for soarin and fast passes all gong by 11. Could not move in the MK on Friday, left my seven because of crowds, but early in the week was great. good luck

Did a little digging myself, since we are going in Oct 06, and here's what I found:

1. Jersey week will be the week that includes Th 11/9 (the teacher's conference runs Th-Sa)
2. Nov 10-12 is also Veteran's Day weekend as well as the last weekend of Epcot's Food and Wine Festival and if history is any indication, it will also be Super Soap Weekend at MGM.
3. Oct 29 is a Sunday and that's when the 2006 Daylight Savings Time will end, "giving" you an extra hour that day.
4. Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) should run AT LEAST Oct 30 and 31, if not Oct 29, too. That one was slippery in terms of trying to determine dates--they were all over the map in 2005!

Based on this info, I would think your Oct 30 date makes the most sense. It may make sense for us, too, now that I've done the research! ;)

don't know if this will help or not

disney is pretty good about extending hours if the parks are crowded.

so go in the morning (especially early hours) - then come back to your resort and enjoy it - then go back later - after 5:00pm (if possible). be sure to use the magic extra hours. So be sure to get park hoppers on your WDW tickets.

oh one more thing for thanksgiving - MK was definitely the park with the most people. for the Jersey week - it was Epcot - hand down...... this park was very, very busy - but the MK was not!!!! (well busy but nothing like Epcot)

Thanks guys for all of your advice!

I finally decided when to go. We are booked at BWV from Oct. 25 through Oct. 30 for the boardwalk view (well preferrred view the first two nights, then moving (if our waitlist does not come through) to the boardwalk view. We really want the BW view since it will be our first trip home! Hope to do MNSSHP one night. Any suggestions as to which night will be less crowded???

We are looking forward to going at this time b/k the past two trips we have been at Christmas time and although we loved seeing all the decorations, we are excited about a change. We hope to do the Food and Wine Festival as well.

I'm just a little concerned about taking my DD out of school the first two or three days of the trip (she is out the 30th anyway). This will be at the end of their first quarter. Wish me luck that all goes well.

Now, I can relax and look forward to HHI for Spring Break first!!!!
