Please help me with my DD! AKL Stay!

I've been a faithful Swan & Dolphin person on our last three trips - I'm taking my DD to WDW for 5 days in Oct and she really wants to stay at AKL.

So I booked our last 2 nights at akl. Will you please tell me what your favorite thing about this resort is.

I want to be prepared to show her a wonderful time there.....

Trekker--I havent stayd at AKL but I saw it on the travel channel and it looks awesome. If she loves animals be sure to get a room with a view. I think you both will love it there.

Did you book a Savannah view? I am also booking a suite/CL for us in July. I am so eager to hear about your stay...so please post upon returning (or while there ). I have been reading everything I can about the AKL too. And, while we LOVE the Dolphin...we also LOVE to try new places! Your DD is on the right track...new experiences expand/enrich the mind and soul.

P.S. Feel free to email me with ANY questions about the 7-night W.C.C. We loved it! We also booked lots of excursions, and did many things onboard. You'll LOVE it!

My favorite things about the AKl are pretty simple. I love the way it smells. I woudn't describe it as cinnamon, cardamon, etc. It is just the smokey smell of woodfires burning, yet different. I love the African music. I love watching the animals on the Savannah, especially at night. I love the gift shop where you can purchase handcarved animals for around $8 each. I love the smiling mousekeepers. It's just a feeling there. I don't think you'll have to try very hard to impress your DD. Just let her relax and enjoy it for what it is.

We can't wait to experience AKL for the first time too. My DGD7's favorite park is AK and she loves animals so she should be in animal heaven at AKL. It's a surprise too, she thinks we're staying at CSR.

She also likes to do crafts and things so I'm hoping to get her in on some of the activities they have for kids. I hear they have them around the pool & lobby....and even something like cookie decorating? at Boma. I also heard there are some programs where they can view the animals at night using night vision binocculars. And if we have time, I'll take her on a hidden Mickey hunt.

I think AKL is an especially good resort to stay during Halloween where the dark & exotic atmosphere will just add to the experience.

As you can see, this Nana is quite anxious to spend 10/25-11/3 at AKL too! Hope to see you there, Trekker!

AKL is my DH's favorite resort! We bought into DVC this year and he has already declared that he wants some of those points for AKL getaways!

We had a Savannah view room last year. I can tell you the very first night we were there, we had put the kids to bed and were set to go out on the balcony to sit for a while to let the kids settle in. So I slid the door open and not 50 feet from out balcony was a giraffe grazing! I know it sounds silly, but I was so excited! I got the kids out of the bunks and had them come see it. The articial moonlight is awesome.

The remoteness of the resort is perfect. You feel like you are on safari. And the atmosphere is so relaxed. You could really skip the parks and just spend your days here.

The pool is perfect in its simplicity. It is an oasis. But it is a good sized pool.

We went down to Arusha Rock several times just to animal watch. Look for all the hidden mickeys at this resort.

For all the people think that this is a dark resort, I think it is completely in character. The dark browns and ambers are completely African and totally unique.
