Hi - I am hoping to have several sets of 4 shirts for our January trip.

I have read the sticky on meeting the designers and how to ask for designs. I think I have that processed.

What I am having trouble with is understanding how to take the design from a post here and getting it computer ready on my computer to then make the transfer? :confused3

Do I just cut and paste and then make it larger - can this be done on word or publisher or do I need something like adobe? Would power point work? As you can see - I have limited computer skills. I also have limited creative skills but I really want to have some neat shirts for our trip.

I am sorry if I am asking a question that is answered somewhere. I see so many wonderful designs and I just can't wrap my brain around getting them from the post to the t-shirt.

Any help would be so appreciated :worship:

Thank you!

First, how to save the pictures. More often than not you will want to save them from photobucket, 4shared or whatever hosting site the DISigner uses. Generally you can click on the image and it will take you to that site. Here is how to save them...

Photobucket:
• The first image that you see is the thumbnail image and you will have to click on that image to open up a second larger version.
• The second image is still not large enough. If you waive your mouse over the image...some gray buttons will appear at the top of the picture. Click on the button on the far left that says something like "full size" or "high resolution".
• Then the image should open up for a third time. This image is the highest resolution image and is the one that you will want to save to your "pictures". Hope that helps!

4Shared:
• The first image that you see is the thumbnail image and you will have to click on that image to open up a second larger version.
• The second image is still not large enough. Below the image you will see a button that says "download". Click on the "download" button to open up a third image.
• Then the image should open up for a third time. This image is the highest resolution image and is the one that you will want to save to your "pictures" as a jpeg.

Next, when I started out, I used MS Word to print all of the images. You can print them directly from your photo editing program, but I like inserting them into word so that I can see how they will look on a regular sheet of paper.

Here is how to insert a picture into word:
• Open up a word document and set all of the margins to .25 inches. You can do this by going to “file” then in the drop down menu click on “page setup” and then click on the “margins” tab.
• Now go back up to the top of Word and click on “insert” and in the drop down menu click on “picture” and “from file”. Then find the image you want to insert, click on the image and click on “insert”.

To change the image size…there are two ways:
• Go to “format” then “picture” and click on the “size” tab. Then change the height to make it larger or smaller depending on what you need. Once you pick a height size to try, hit the “tab” key on your keyboard and the width will automatically correct itself. Then click “okay”.
• The second way to change the size is to click once on the picture. Then point your mouse at one of the corner dots on the square around the picture. When you point the mouse at the corner, you will see a diagonally set of arrows. When you see these arrows, click and hold down the left button on your mouse and drag your mouse in or out to make the image smaller or larger.

For adult t-shirts, you will want to use the entire 8.5x11 sheet of transfer paper. Form most children's shirts, you can get two t-shirt images on one transfer sheet.

You really should take some time and look through the "tips" sticky at the top of this forum. It answers this and most questions that newbies have.

Hope that helps!

Thank you so much for your reply. If there is a graphic I like that is in photo bucket and is general/doesn't need any changing, is okay to use it?

If I wanted to request something personalized, would it then be put in a photobucket or similar place by the DISigner and then I would get it from there?

I have read through the sticky a few times. It gets a bit overwhelming as I am so not cretive or computer savvy. I am starting now for January because I know it may take me a while to get it right.

Thanks for your patience and help.

I welcome any other suggestions or ways to make this simple.

If you find a blank in a photobucket that you like...you can use it without asking, but it is always nice to send a message to the DISigner thanking them for the great DISign. The BEST way to say thanks for images that you use...is to post pics of the t-shirts and things you make once you have made them. Try to keep up with which DISigner made each DISign so you can post it with the pic.

Every DISigner is different in how they post their images that they make for you. They will either post the image or how to get to the image in the thread where you make a request.

Since you have a good bit of time before your trip...check out this thread for ideas for other things that you can make in addition to t-shirts:

Thanks again for you help. I want to be sure I do this right and totally give thanks and credits to the DISigners - your talents are so amazing and the time alone spent on these designs is a gift in itself.

I have talked to my girls and I think we will try to tackle making shirts during our summer holiday. Once I see how it goes - and most likely my 13 year old will know more than I on the computer aspect - we will see about other projects. There are so many neat things to do.

I did have one other question - When a picture has a solid square border around it, will that whole solid color square print and be a part of the design? Would you then need to find a shirt to match it or do they work best on white?

Thank you!!

Ok I am trying to follow the directions for the 4shared files. I get to the point where I click download and it asks me what program to open it with, I have tried a few incl. Microsoft Word and Adobe but neither worked. I know there is something incredible simple that I am doing wrong but I cant figure it out. I am using Mozilla Firefox if that makes any difference.

Thanks to Daisy21015 for asking these great (basic :goodvibes) questions and to jtanddolly for patiently answering them. I, too, had read the sticky tips/FAQs and was having a hard time getting started but this helps.

Thanks!
