DH and I are currently driving to DL. We are about to hit the AZ border. We are driving from Dallas TX.

After all this recent rain DH's grandmother is convinced DL is flooded and in a state of emergency and that we're going to die. She keeps insisting that it's wrong of us to go to a place that's in a state of emergency for pure enjoyment.

I am trying to be sweet as this is my first Christmas married into this family and we're not spending Christmas with them. We've a rough 6 months since we got married and getting away from Texas is the least we can do for ourselves at this very moment.

My question is this: is it really as bad as grandma's news station is telling her??? She has posted on my Facebook 10 times since Wednesday about this.....

No it's not bad anymore! It is bright and sunny - and even warm - today!! There is no flooding in DL now, I'm sure. The rain pretty much subsided yesterday. It may rain a little bit over the weekend, but it won't be as bad as what we just had.

Tell grandma that she will have an absolutely wonderful time. There are amazing details to see at the Reindeer Round-Up. There are wonderful Dickens carolers strolling around the 3 hotels. The Grand Californian Hotel is a great place to sit and soak in the holiday atmosphere. New Orleans Square is gorgeous. The nighttime Winter Castle and the nighttime It's a Small World facade will be breathtaking. You will have an awesome time!

We were there on Tuesday in the midst of all the rain. Even then, the only "flooding" I saw were puddles my four year old enjoyed jumping in with her rain boots. Cast members could be seen sweeping extra water towards the drains now and then to avoid water build up, but there was nothing i ever saw that looked like actual flooding. The weather here in So Cal is now beautiful and sunny just like Sherry wrote in the previous post so it's pretty much a moot point anyway.

State of emergency? LOL No, just really really really wet.

But today is gorgeous (a bit chilly) and the storm has passed --- for the time being anyway.

Go. Enjoy. Tell grandma it's all good.

The reason they declare a "State of Emergency" is to allocate funds needed for clean up from the mud slides and flooding quicker. I believe it allows them to get federal funds as well. Tell grandma not to worry, California has not been reduced to a third world country. :thumbsup2
