..........on a trip to WDW.

I am going to talk DH into WDW next December, the 18-28 to be exact. :woohoo: I am trying to come up with a super convincing argument and I need some help. He has made it clear that he wants a more relaxing, less commando trip this next time and here some ideas thus far:

  • Hanukkah, our middle DD's bday, and Christmas all fall between these dates. We could give the trip for Hanukkah and Santa can fund the souvenirs. We will still do a something special for Chloe's bday
  • We can stay at his beloved SSR for half of the trip
  • DDP for half the stay since we'll be doing a split stay
  • golf
  • Sea World? Universal? Kennedy Space Center?
  • Two days *on*, one day *off*, rinse, lather, repeat
  • Did I mention we'd spend as much $$ between the two holidays and Chloe's bday?

Think it's too cold for a water park? He likes both BB and TL.

Water parks can be iffy in Dec, and 2 days on and 1 off is not so relaxing IMOA! 2 days off and 1 on is more my speed. Depends on what he (your family) considers relaxing. We have done 11 nights and only 4 days in the parks, no Universal or Sea World just 1 day at each park. We rode the monorail, sat by the pool (we checked the forcast and planned accordingly), went to the outlets, rented the mini racer boats, mini golf and bascially enjoyed the resort, of course we were at the Ft Wilderness Cabins and we rented golf carts so we just cruised around for hours. Kids loved it, and I am just as excited to do the same staying at BLT in Feb (minus the golf carts) plus the balcony! Good luck, and enjoy!

DH is a tricky bird, he is high energy and the park commando when inside the parks but claims he wants to have some down days. I could sit by the pool everyday to be honest, at least for a while. I am thinking that December will be iffy for lots of pool time.

We both like the idea of really enjoy the resorts. The SSR has golf and a spa, not fun for the kids, but great for us. ;)

We won't have a car so getting around will be an issue.

Universal does not sound fun to me though I am sure my two oldest and DH would love it. I suppose they could go and DS and I could do MK. He is my Disney soulmate.

:thanks: for the ideas. Lots to think about it.

I know he loves Raglan Road too so there is another bribe, er I mean selling point.

:rotfl:

Loved your title! We all have those days!

My spouse cannot be nudged or begged. Once a year he will make the sacrifice for me. ;)
Good thing DD has always been a Disney nut.

 Sacrafice? They have no clue how lucky they are to have their own personal Disney travel specialists!

I figure if I wish it enough, it will come true. He says: why can't you use that same energy with regard to our income. :rolleyes1

We only get 4 day park hoppers. When we stay for a week, that gives us 3 days to do "nothing".;) When we go for shorter stays, we usually don't do the parks at all. Commando is a thing of the past...for us. :thumbsup2

I so need to adopt your mindset. :thumbsup2 We have the next 50 years to enjoy Disney so we need to just sloooooow doooown. Realistically, our contract will last longer than DH and I will. ;)

Any bribe ideas? I like the 4 day thing but not sure the kids would comply. If we go the 18-28 that gives us 10 days (I think of the two travel days as only one day of vacation which could look like:

~ relax Sunday, tool around the resort, have dinner at SSR
~ Monday and Tuesday park days with midday breaks
~ Wed chill day- maybe golf for DH and a little spa for me, first night of Hannukah so we could do a nice dinner at one of the resorts
~ Thursday park day (Chloe's bday)
~ Friday park day
~ Saturday chill
~ Sunday park
~ Monday (Christmas Day)- no parks!
~ Tuesday park day
~ Wed park day
~ Thursday chill before leaving

;) DH's BDay is July 4th, so , of course I got him a singing birthday card with Mickey standing under a moonlight night playing "When you Wish Upon a Star"...and the stars light up on the card. He grinned when he saw it because I have been playing the role of "Family Disney Planning Freak" lately. THis past Tuesday when I was struggling to get up for work after the holiday...he turned his card on and held it over my head to wake me up.

He is not Mr. Romantic, and I at 5:30 a.m. was not really in the mood for Mickey (:scared1:)....but soon after thought it was a precious and sweet way to start the day and thanked him for it. Now Mickey sits on my nightstand and we both play it at least once a day.

So can't help you with convincing, none needed with my DH....but he does like having his own day at AK for picture taking so that is a little gem I use when I talk about our trip. DVC has slowed us down and we do have more relaxing trips which we both enjoy very much.

Well consider yourself fortunate, My ex never allowed us to go anywhere. My kids never saw walt disneyworld, and I took them to disneyland once. So if all husbands go feel blessed. Jo

Going to WDW on the most crowded days of the year may not be very relaxing. Can you change your dates?

:earsboy: Bill

If you are trying to convince him, maybe you should stay at his choice of resort for the whole trip, not just half.

How about a non park stay where you just hang out, hit the pool, sleep late, grill out, etc.

My DH is a funny fish sometimes too. When I have suggested cruising or booking Vero, he looks at me and says, "But there's no parks there, what would we do?"

Yet, sometimes, he says that we should try some new places. He just shoots them all down.:rotfl2:

Anyway, my caveats:

Have you ever been to Disney during the Holidays? The time frame that you are talking about it really really crowded.

Could I suggest that you move the trip to the week before the Holiday week? The crowds will be lower and the the stress lower. Just consider.

As far as pool time, I can tell you that those of us from colder climate areas are more inclined to use the pools than the Southerners. December weather can be dicey, but you may find that it warm enough for you.

For comparison, our October trip was wayyy chilly. Our teeth were chattering during MNSSHP, and this was NOT forecasted. Whereas, our December trip we really only got chilled a bit at night in the parks. All it took was to tie a long sleeve shirt around the waist, to put on later.

Looking at your schedule, I would probably get in all my park days prior to Christmas. After that, they will be a zoo.

We did WDW for Christmas a few years back. We were only there for 6 days. We did the parks for the first 4, then it was Christmas. At that point we went into the relax mode. Visit resorts, shopping, relaxing. We drove home on 12/27 and loved the fact that we were not in that line going into MK that was miles long. :scared1:

I am grateful we got to experience WDW for Christmas, but I was also grateful that we have been to the parks so many times that it was just nice to enjoy what WDW has to offer, without going into the parks.

I am also a very lucky girl, my DH loves Disney and the Disney cruises as much as I do!
It also helps that we joined DVC, because we do know we'll be back each year (usually booking the next years trip as we get back from one) and it really allows a more layed back feeling.
We are going for Thanksgiving this year, which we have done before, and hoping we get some warm days for relaxing by the pool. I will tell you they keep the pools really warm, sometimes warmer than the air.

:thumbsup2 Love the slow down and I think we will enjoy it more as well.

I thought about that but part of the selling point is that it will be over the holidays and the trip will be our gift. With 7 nights of Hanukkah and 3 kids it can get quite $$$. I bet we'd spend close to what the trip would cost between Hanukkah, Christmas (Santa ), and Chloe's bday party.

If you are trying to convince him, maybe you should stay at his choice of resort for the whole trip, not just half.

Now that is a good idea! :thumbsup2

I don't know that I am quite ready for that. I think we'd do HH or trade out to vacation like that at this point with kids being as old as they are.

I have thought about the week before but I know myself, in order for the trip to be their gifts, it will actually have to be during Hanukkah. I am sucker!

We live in Utah and my wacky kids will swim in the Pacific in December.

I am thinking of the breaking the trip up like you suggest and I think DH will like that- the first half, before Christmas we'll do the parks (weather pending) and the relax/golf/spa mode the next half.

I am also a very lucky girl, my DH loves Disney and the Disney cruises as much as I do!

Awesome! It's nice when they comply and "get it" too.

I don't know him but it seems like he has different expectations than you have for a trip, at least right now. To get him on board you likely need to convince him you'll actually plan a trip that fits his comfort level. Hopefully it's all good natured and not a deep seeded disagreement.

We have been together 17 years, it's good natured. :goodvibes

After an hour long discussion on the way to Denver today he thinks we should take parts of all the advice given so :thanks: everyone!

He wants to:
  • go earlier from the 11-21; Chloe's bday is the 21st and we could do a great character meal before heading out.
  • do 2 days on, one day off with room to change for weather limitations. We actually don't mind a little rain in the parks. We'd save the warmer days for pool time
  • stay in a 2 bedroom at the SSR the whole time, no split stay.

I can live with all of this! :woohoo: He still hasn't totally agreed but is getting closer. I told him he has until Jan. 11 :rotfl2:

I am still very open to more advice. :thumbsup2
