Please Help Me Help a Friend

Okay, I'm getting really excited about the possibilities for the family now. Over on the Community Board, MimiQ offered to donate one of her old hoppers that has a day left on it. That means two people in the family can go in to the parks for two days! So, if I can find 3 other donations then the family can experience two parks this trip. Additionally, I am asking the other dance families to donate a little so that we can get them one more night at their hotel. Does anyone have any left over tickets they would be willing to donate? Any other suggestions

Just a quick update for everyone, through the wonderful people of the DIS we have secured two tickets. So, we are needing two more. I have had several offers of monetary donations to be used for tickets and spending money. I cannot tell you how moved I am by the people of the DIS. You are the GREATEST!!

I just wanted to give the OP's post a *bump* and link it to her first post on the Theme Parks board. It's kind of taken on a life of its own!
Edited to remove broken link.

I was following your thread yesterday on helping another family experience a truely "Magical" vacation ...Clogging dancers...hope everything is following thru as you planned !! Good luck with your donations offers and keep us all updated ... Hope everyone has a terrific vacation !!! :flower:

Thanks to Ugadog99 and so many nice people on the DIS VOLUNTEERING what they can, this family will have a wonderful trip. I appreciate all of you and your thoughtfulness!

What happened to the thread? I'd subscribed to it and been following it...gone!

It was deleted. I believe the mods felt it was solicitation. I'm sorry to see that happen. I was definately not solicited. I volunteered because I wanted to.

I hope that Ugadog99 is still able to make things happen for that family.

I know quite a few friends of my daughters who are "down on their luck" and have never been to Disney(and we live in FL!) and probably never will.

It's nice that this trip can be made so special for these folks as it probably will be their only visit.

I'm glad I found this. ITA I didn't feel solicited. The original thread was for advice on free things to do in the wdw area and the responders are what gave it a new and different life.

To keep this thread alive lets do more through pm and keep specifics off the thread.

I really can't believe they closed that thread! I searched for it both last night and this morning and finally found this one. What a shame - one of the times when Disney magic was simply HAPPENING like we all talk about and they shut it down???? Although I couldn't personally contribute monetarily right now since we are paying up to $4000 (or a new car) for van repairs I simply couldn't donate, but it was doing me and Dh's heart good to read the updates on what happened... :guilty:

Just silly in my opinion...

Things have changed but I remember a group of DISers coming together to make a wish trip even more special for a wonderful family back in August 2003. If you have the time and plenty of Kleenex, check this old thread:

It will warm your heart and renew your faith in the goodness of people.

That was sooooo mean...It is TOM and I don't think I have ever cried so hard in my life. DH called from work and I couldn't even pick up the phone I was crying so hard!!! LOL I came here after this story, but would have loved to be around for it. Nate has got to be the cutest little boy I have ever seen!!! Thanks again.

Unfortunatley folks have been taken advantage of on the DIS. There have been several posts where folks have posted "sick family members" etc that have turned out to be not really true. People then blame the mods for allowing them to be taken so I can understand why threads that start getting "Free tickets' etc. are now deleted.

I remember little Nate and his family as well. That is the post/thread that made me realized what a warm and caring site this was. I even remembered Nate when I first saw this one on Friday and saw how it was snowballing.

I still remember Nate's family and Baby Sophie and her family and the house fire that took her and the rest of the family too soon and more recently the hurricane victims that are members of our DIS family.

The moderators have a tough job and do what they believe is best, but I hated to see this this pulled .

ETA - I just started rereading the threat about Nate Page and I see a difference. In Nate's thread a third party (DCL) received all funds and donations, nothing went to a poster, even for clearing purposes. If that was the reasoning the moderators used I can understand it.

When we see a request for charitable contributions in a post or a link in someone's signature, we first remove the post (or thread) and ask that the poster contact Pete for permission to make the post or include the link.

If you take a look at Mickeysaver's signature, you see that she links to a charity, but was given permission to do so by Pete and tells people that in her signature.

We hope that this does not appear hard hearted...

Beth, I totally understand. I do have a question, however. In the past, I tried asking Pete a question. I never got an answer. It appeared he never even read my PM. Is there a particular PM id or email id we should use when addressing something to him? Thanks!

True. Much of what was given to the Pages was by individuals acting outside of the framework of these boards. They may have connected thru the DIS, but they worked outside of it to make the Magic happen. No one ever asked for donations online or had them funnel thru their own private accounts. Perhaps that's where the difference lies.

Regardless, the story of Nate Page is one that had quite an impact on me. He's one little guy who left a big imprint on this world.
