I am trying to find a book that I used when I was looking for a church the last time (2003). It was called (I thought) The Unofficial Guide to Finding a Church. If I remember correctly, it was a red paperback, fairly large.

Basically, the book had a list of almost every Christian denomination, what they believe, requirements for membership, and what to expect at a service. I have been trying to find a copy but I cannot. When I tried looking up the book, nothing came up under that title on Amazon, Google, or Barnes and Noble. I must have remembered the title wrong. I know that I got it at a Barnes and NOble the last time. Does anybody know the book I am talking about and the name of it? Thanks!

No book by that name exists, in or out of print that I can find.

If it's red and this was relatively recent, then perhaps it is this one, published in 2003:

Finding a Church You Can Love and Loving the Church You've Found

(There is a large red book called the Unofficial Church Staff Manual: youth pastor's edition, but I doubt that is the piece you are searching for.)

No. I believe the color scheme had red and yellow. The crazy thing is, my husband remembers seeing it at some pint, but we can't remember where we saw it, and I have moved multiple times since buying that book, so Lord only knows where it is now!

I'm looking into converting from my current denomination to my husband's as his family is much more entrenched in their faith than mine. There aren't any good books on his particular denomination (Lutheran) that I can find. There were so many books when I converted to Catholicism, it spoiled me. I wanted to use this book becausei t was so informational, but I can't find it!

If you know of any good books on the Lutheran Church, I am open to suggestions!

Oh my goodness Snarling Coyote. I love you! I think I just scared my dogs because as soon as I saw it I yelled "yes!" LOL. I don't even know how many combinations of words I typed trying to come up with the one I needed and got nada. Thank you so much! You so totally rock! (To quote Crush)

Do you remember about when it was that you consulted it before? That would help. It's possible that there could be multiple editions of the book that have been published, so the current cover might not look like the one that you remember.

As to books on the Lutheran Church, that's easy if you are speaking of Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, because they own Concordia Publishing House; just do an Amazon search on it and you'll find tons of materials. If you're looking for material on ELCA it will be a bit harder.

I would also suggest you try the catalog of MidContinent Public Library; they have an enormous religion collection.

Snarling Coyote found it. It is sadly out of print, but I should be able to find a used edition if I can't find mine.

It is Missouri Synod. I went to our local religious store and they didnt have anything. Just a biography of Luther. I will try mid Continent, I haven't ventured there yet, but I will have to. That's a great idea.
