PLEASE HELP ME figure this out...

I have 108 points left for 2008. My use year is December. I cannot officially book anything for this year until after those points are available (Dec) BUT...

I know I can book something for January or after.....

I was considering renting points to someone for January...Here's the question.... What would happen to those points if they would cancel? Would I have to use them or sell them THIS year? Would I be able to rent them to someone else for October?

With a Dec. use year (which I too have), this year is 12/1/2006 to 11/30/2007. We are still in our 2006 year. Since you can only borrow one year out, your 2008 points can be "borrowed" to make reservations between 12/1/07 thru 11/30/08. if you do make a reservation borrowing your 2008 points and it is cancelled, you would have to use them before 11/30/2008.

Based on what you said, yes. But it would be prudent to call MS & make sure you have your uy & available points correct.

Yes as Figment2 posted you could borrow your 2008 points for a stay during your 2007 UY: 12/1/07 through 11/30/08. So in theory, you could make a reservation for Dec 2007 using points borrowed from your 2008 UY. The problem here is that there won't be much availability left for December 2007 at this time.

You are confusing use year and calendar year. Your 2007 points and points borrowed into your 2007 use year can only be used for reservations from December 1, 2007 thru November 30, 2008. That is the time period of your 2007 use year and hence for use of 2007 points.

Points can be moved one Use Year ahead by borrowing or one Use Year back by banking. You can not move them ahead or back yet another year by borrowing or banking them a second time.

When you borrow your 2008 UY points into your 2007 UY, they aren't exactly the same as "native" 2007 points. They have a status of "borrowed" which precludes you from borrowing them again into an even earlier Use Year.
