Please help me figure out points

Ok, so I have a current trip booked for September using my 2013 October UY points. We have decided we also want to take a trip in December so we are changing our room selection for Septembers stay to get back some of our points from our September trip. Since they will go back into the Oct 2013 UY my question is, should I bank the points to schedule the December trip in case we have to cancel the December trip at the last minute? If I do this will they go back into banked 2014 points?

If changing your Sept reservation gives you extra points, bank them before you cannot bank them if you won't use them before Sept 30, 2014. Then you can use them for a December 2014 trip. And if you don't use for the Dec 2014 trip, they would expire Sept 30, 2015.

If you cancel a reservation or make a change that requires less points, the points are returned to the UY in which the reservation was to take place. If any of those points were either banked or borrowed, they will remain in that status and will expire at the end of that UY unless used.
