OK, I am just going crazy trying to decide where to stay. There is 5 of us. DS is 13, and 10 and DD is 8. We stayed last year at the Port Orleans in two rooms and loved it. (we had the postcard rate) but I received a Deluxe postcard rate this year so we are trying to decide between one room at the Contemp. or a cabin at Fort Wilderness. Contemp rate would be 665.00 for the 4 nights and the Cabin would be 687.00 for the 4 nights. Please tell me the pros and cons of each and what I should do.
thanks for all your help.

Well, the most obvious difference in the two to my way of thinking is space. The cabins are going to be more roomy and I believe they have the added amenities of a kitchenette area. I've never stayed there personally but my cousin did and absolutely loved the cabins.

The pros of the Contemporary are CONVENIENCE, the ease of traveling to the MK and Epcot especially (you can walk to the MK), the views from the hotel itself and the convenience of having everything centrally located within the hotel, like restaurants, gift shops, arcade, etc. We've stayed at the Contemp several times and love the views from the tower. Our son is a monorail fanatic so that was obviously a big plus for him. Of course, on the con side, it will be 5 people in one room so a little more crowded. We have 5 in our family also (DD's 14 and 3, DS 7) and we were fine but I could see wanting more room if the kids were older.

Hope this helps some!

Wow! What a decision! At least the rates are pretty comparable.
I have stayed at neither, so I will try my best!

Cabins- I would choose this if you are looking for a more "peaceful" vacation. I saw the insides on the Great Hotels episode which featured the WL and they looked very cute! You could definitely save on food, by eating somem meals here. Definitely breakfast and I would bring some lunch items and snacks/drinks/coffee/water. The nighttime activites, hayride and petting zoo could provide some nice diversions. I don't know much about the pool. I think the only drawback wouldl be transportation. You do have the boat to the MK, if you plan on spending a lot of time there. Perhaps with money you save on food , you could rent car and that would be solved.

Contemporary- if you want to be in the middle of the magic and your kids won't drive you crazy, I would do this. Although, I don't think I woud want to stay here unless it were a tower room. You have the monorail, but still have to share buses to the other theme parks.Actually, I am leaning more away from the CR as I write think about it. If you could swing two rooms at a mod, I think you would be happier with the extra space, extra bathroom, good food courts, and good bus transportation (both CBR and CSR are nice). Plus, they also have pool slides (CSR 's is much bigger). Check mousesavers to see if there are any codes you can use.

Right now,I'm leaning towrds the cabin between those two choices.

I think the cabins would be outstanding for your family. Again, you are only a hop, skip, and a jump away from the action. You won't need a vacation from your vacation after you leave WDW.

I have not stayed at either, but if I were in your situation with three kids those ages, I would choose the cabins. I have a daughter, and she loves the petting zoo at FW. The kids can ride horses if they are over seven, or ponies if they are under 7. There are camp fires, Goofy's (I think) Backyard BBQ, trails, beach volleyball nets, golf carts to drive around, Hoop Dee Doo, Hayrides, and tons of other things to do there. If you want to be relaxed this may be the place. If you like the commando-style vacation with lots of action and stimulation for everyone, then CR would be the place. This resort has the largest game room on property.

I don't know--kids can do that at home at the local mall. FW seems to offer more that I could never do where I live. And you can still take the boat to MK.

With 5 of you going, FW for sure is the way to go.

Have a great trip!!!
