I have already decided to plan this trip on my own (no travel agent this time) - all of your advice has given me the courage to check codes - ask for discounts - etc.
Now I am wondering if it would be worth it to join Disney Club?? We don't travel enough to justify annual passes.
Would appreciate your opinions on the pros's and con's of Disney Club and/or AAA.

Thanks,
Paula

The discount codes you can find on various websites (pm me if you want the sites) will give you the same discounts as disney club. I joined disney club and used it when I went to the Hoop De Doo dinner show. It saved me a little. You don't get any discounts at the parks. You do get a discount if you shop at the main disney store at the marketplace. In addition you get 10% off at disney stores. The disney club does give you 30 days to decide if you want to keep it or they give you your money back. But I found that if you really don't shop at the disney store where you live, it is not really worth the money. The other "perks" you get with the club are not worth it. Like sometimes they have a free screening for a movie but I have tried twice and never got it (first come first serve).

it depends. do you already have your tickets? if not~have you researched the idea of buying them somewhere other than disney? there are company's that sell discounted tickets. if you are buying the tickets thru disney then you may get a savings on your tickets greater than the cost to join the club.

i just used mine to book my hotel for next may. i am saving 15% on room alone. i am saving over a hundred dollars on the room itself. so it is definitely paying for itself for me. plus i dont feel comfortable buying my tickets from anyone not disney so this is the only way i will be able to get the discounts on the tickets. i also have AAA (just a good thing to have in general) but i dont like their ticket options. i dont think i would join AAA just for the disounts.

and i love the disney magazine. it comes with the disney club.

hope i helped!

With the Disney Club, you will save 10% in the stores, catalog and online shopping. You will be able to only use it some select stores in DTD. It does offer discounts on Disney resorts... 20% and sometimes more. IF you order your hopper tickets online, you will receive a discount. It is not available on the 4 or 5 day hopper tickets in the Disney Stores or at the parks or resorts. At times it is good for discounted prices at the miniature golf venues. It is also good at select restaurants in WDW, a brouchere will outline which ones. Discounts are subject to change.

Without the Disney Club... you could save money by looking at the discount codes on board and mousesavers.com. You could get similar discounts on tickets through AAA, without going online to order. If you go with connections you can get discounted meals.

It really depends on what you will use your card for... if you shop TDS, catalog or online, then that, in itself may be worth it to you. If you are only looking at it for room rate discounts or ticket discounts, you may be able to do just as well elsewhere.

I joined the DC for the 15% discount on the Backstage Tour, which basically paid for the card itself. The discount codes for rooms seen on the Mousesavers web site could come and go, but I hope the DC discount is more stable.

I would then use DISavers to book my trip, get the DC discount, and get the commission rebate. The discount codes on Mousesavers could come and go. If I booked my trip through AAA, then I couldn't get the DISavers commission rebate.

I've booked through AAA before and if I was going to WDW only once this year, I'd probably use AAA again for our family's trip next year. But since I'll probably stay at a WDW a couple of times this year while attending conferences in Orlando, DISavers will probably save me more $ than AAA.

I get a DC membership for completely different reasons than everyone is stating.

I use the Entertainment membership included on the card to get discounts at hotels everywhere. And I have yet to find a rental car discount to beat what the DC membership discount number and website coupon can get with National.

All I need to do is book one hotel stay or one car rental and I have more than made back my membership fee. All that without dropping a dime at Disney.

Anything else I may use the card for during the year like shopping discounts, resort room discounts or park passes is a bonus.

I personally will not be renewing mine...Sure it got me a good (not great) discount on my room for the next trip, but I have not bought tickets yet, but with the new Ticket schedule, the DC discount does NOT make a big difference, especially when it comes to some of the online discount ticket sites...

The magazine is okay, but I can browse it at the store and buy it only if their is something of interest....

I also don't usually buy overpriced Disney merchandise for my children..

Just my cynical opinion...

If you intend to buy annual passes, it can be worth it. I think we save 20 per tix on the PAP, so that pays for the DC for sure, then we get the annual pass discounts on top of that. There are also some rest. where you get a dc discount as well.

Disney merchandise is not overpriced, and if you look you can find fantastic sales!

Hmmm, this is a tough one. I usually do not find the DC room discounts very exciting (as compared to the AP discount or codes or SOG discounts). I rarely use DC packages--though I did one year for a Christmas package where none of the other discounts were available to me and I saved $50...

I don't purchase APes every year. But, when I do, the DC discount more than pays for the membership.

This year, I have purchased quite a few Disney (state) Pins at Disney Stores, enough to more than cover DC dues. (Those little pins add up, don't they?)

I have also enjoyed some pretty good discounts on National Car Rental. I am saving $42 off my next rental. The EA is wonderful.

I like the magazine that is included with the membership, too.

My biggest problem is forgetting where DC discounts are given and not taking advantage of them! We also have AP'es, a DVC membership, an AMEX card and a AAA membership and I sometimes forget which card gives which discount where (or just totally forget to ask for the discount) ....

-DC :)

The DC costs $8 more than the savings it gets for 2 adult AP's. The only other benefit we would use is 10% off at the DS, but I'm with David about that being overpriced. I rarely buy full price at the DS, and the card doesn't give a discount on top of sales. We aren't interested in the restaurants included in the discounts, and we have an off site timeshare or can stay at SoG. That leaves the shopping discount that I won't use. Makes one wonder why I'm still considering it. If we go for AP's we might get it, but if we don't then it really makes no sense for us.
