Please help me decide between Chefs de France and San Angel Inn

We are trying Chefs in Dec. trip.

If you ever wonder how people get so many post in such a short time...see above :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Just over a year and 6000 post....impressive...

Never been to Chefs.... we are not French cuisine types, but we LOVE SAI. I think its wonderful, everything we have tried has been tasty and authentic. I just wanted to add that I think skipping dinner at Sci-Fi and just having dessert only is a great idea. Love the atmosphere over there, but the food is lacking in taste, quality, value for the money, shall I go on? lol

We much prefer Chefs de France. I wouldn't hesitate taking your child with you. It's not *that* quiet. We've just never been able to find good service or anything we really think it that good at SAI except the margaritas. :p

We are fans of both, but if I had to pick just one it would be Chefs de France. I can make a meal out of the French Onion Soup and Ice Cream Puffs alone! Add a steak and I am one happy girl! :Pinkbounc

Has anyone mentioned that Chefs will not be on the Dining Plan in 2007?

It may help you decide... I'm re evaluating my Epcot TS, maybe switch Rose and Crown for a Chef? :confused3

I had not heard that Chefs would not be on DDP in 2007. Tell me more. Are there others excluded?
Deb

I live in Tucson, AZ where we have some of the worlds finest Mexican food. I know very good Mexican food is also available in Dallas. Because we often eat Mexican that is hard to beat we go for Chef's which we always enjoy.

we will have our 2-year-old DS and he can be quite loud at times. We'd hate to ruin someone's dinner if they were looking for a relaxing, quite place.

Chef's is not relaxing and quiet. It's a loud, busy, brasserie. We like it a lot and will be eating there next trip, however I doubt anyone will even be able to hear your DS much less be bothered by him.

We had dinner there in December 05 and it was quite loud then too. We enjoyed our dinner and plan on returning during our upcoming trip. Some posters may not think Chef's atmosphere compares favorably to SAI, but our babysitter thought the attractiveness of the wait staff more than made up for any decorating shortcomings. She loved it and can't wait to get back. :dance3:

Nothing wrong with the food at SAI, but it is definitely NOT tex-mex, it is authentic Mexican, which many Americans are not accustomed to.

Excuse me, but I live in east Texas where we have alot of Mexican's as well as people from Central America. The mom of one of the kids I used to coach in soccer is from the southern part of Mexico and used to make me the most delicious Mexican food, so yes I am familiar with authentic Mexican as well as what some people call Tex Mex. Also there are alot of excellent Mexican restaraunts in our area just east of Dallas. Believe me San Angel Inn is not even remotely in the same ball park.

Food poorly prepared is bad regardless if you call it Tex Mex or Mexican.

Funny thing about food. It's a matter of taste. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it bad or poorly prepared. It happens to be one of my favorite places to eat. At the same time I don't care for Chefs...go figure...

I've eaten at both, and I would pick Chef's. Big fan of Mexican food (my favorite is my grandmother's) and I was not happy with the food or the service at SAI. I'll probably try it one more time in the future, but I loved Chef's and would gravitate toward that if I had to choose.

We love the atmosphere and food at SAI. That being said, we almost did Chefs in November (had the ADR and cancelled). If you are taking kids, I'd head to SAI. If not, Either place has nice atmosphere. Chefs will be quieter, though. I'd go look at menus and then go to mouseplanet for photos. I'm sure whichever you pick will be great.
Can you tell me where on mouseplanet are the photos?? :confused3

First, I said many not all people were not familiar with it. Of course I know that there are people in the US that have had something other than Tex-Mex. I did not mean to offend anyone.

Second, southern Mexican food is very different from the area around Mexico City, which is where SAI is from. And I agree that I have had better Mexican food even way up here in Chicago, far from the border.

Tex-Mex and Mexican are 2 different styles of cooking, and taste is a matter of opinion; some like SAI, some don't.

Skip SAI it is dark and dirty. This was the all time worst DDP serevice we have ever had in our life. We ended up leaving and going someplace and getting something to eat.

I haven't been to Chefs, but I just wanted to say that my whole family really enjoyed San Angel. I had read quite a few negative reviews on the boards before our trip, so I hadn't planned on going there, but DW and the rest of my family wanted Mexican food, so that's where we went. I was very pleasantly surprised and we all thought the food was really good and we'll definitely go back on our next trip.

I like both. Totally different atmosphere and food type, but if I had to choose, it would be Mexico. I like the atmo and the drinks better. Also, I'm not afraid of real mexican food, and rather, prefer it. Hola, chica!

I personally like the kind of mexican they make up the street from my house better than what they serve at SAI. But my Husband LOVES SAI.

WE BOTH liked Chefs de France.

We are also trying to decide if one of these will make the cut this year. We are talking about just having drinks and sharing Nachos at SAI and paying OOP because my hubby does not feel like he has been to Epcot if we dont go to SAI.
