Please help me choose a Digital Audio Player/MP3 player

I'm really clueless about this so please be patient.

Is there a difference between a digital audio player and an MP3 player? I'm looking for something reasonably priced (less than $100.00) that I can use at the gym, walking, etc., so it doesn't have to hold tons of songs. I'm hoping for something with an arm strap, compact, and fairly user friendly.

Does such a thing exist? Or there other features I should consider other than the ones mentioned? I'm hoping to buy something in the next few days.

I have a Sandisk and I love it. Mine is the older version, but we got my cousin the newer one and as far as I know it is the same only it looks a bit different. Mine came with an armband that had a plastic case attached to put the MP3 player in and hook it onto your arm. My cousin's was only 70$ I think.
