I know this is probably not the right forum to post this on, but I thought I could get some quick responses here. Sorry!
We're leaving in 5 days and today I noticed my DD(7) is getting a stuffy nose. :guilty: It's nothing too bad yet. She does get stuffy noses a lot in general.
Will this bother her when we fly? :confused3 This will be her first time and only my second time flying. I gave her some decongestant tonight before bed. I think I'll do this every night til we leave on Thursday. Does anyone have any other advice? Has anyone else flown when their kids have stuffy noses? I have heard of earplanes, should I try those, I'm not sure how she'd like something in her ears though.
Should I consider canceling? It's not bad enough to take her to the dr, but maybe I should have her checked since our trip is so close! We've been planning this trip (our first) for a year! PLEASE HELP! Thanks! :)

It can be quite hard on the ears. Call her Dr. or a pharmacist tomorrow for advice and take gum to chew. Have a great trip! :goodvibes

Ask your pharmacist! They're extremely knowledgeable, even about OTC medications, and there are products out now like Zicam (I think) or zinc tablets that if you start taking them at the first sign of a cold, reduce the severity and duration. I'm not sure Earplanes (also available at your local/chain drugstore) are for this purpose.

I agree with rmom50, call your ped. tomorrow for advice. Is she prone to ear infections? If so you might want to get her checked out the day or two before your supposed to leave.

My ds had TONS of ear infections, and unfortuantely developed a severe one the day before we were scheduled to leave. His ENT dr said if he flew, it would likely rupture his ear drum. Needless to say, we postponed our trip.

I don't mean to worry you, just wanted to throw that out there in case your dd gets ear infections easily. Better to be safe than sorry!

Sending pixie dust your way! Hope she feels better soon!! :wizard:

I would also give her some chicken soup...it is good for her and if she is coming down with a cold would help in that regard, not a cure but who knows... oh yeah push fluids. flush those bugs!

Yes, she is prone to ear infections, in fact she just had one about two weeks ago. She always starts with a stuffy nose which lasts a couple weeks and then it gets into her ears. We always go through fall and winter with this, during the summer she is fine. I knew when I planned this trip for Oct. I was taking a risk. I'm so bummed! :guilty: I'm going to try and get her into the dr. Monday and see what they say about flying.
Has anyone actually flown with a stuffly nose? How did you do?

Granted, I'm an adult, but I've flown with a stuffy nose loads of times and never had a problem. (I went to college in TX and mom lives in IN, so I've flown a lot...) The only time I had trouble was when I had an ear infection, because I couldn't get my ears to pop as we were descending and it HURT badly. So, I'd agree with the other posters and check with your doctor for advice! Good luck and here's some pixie dust! pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

Another opinion to take your daughter to the doctor to have her ears and throat examined before your trip. He/she will most likely prescribe medications which should increase the chances of her having a GREAT vacation at WDW. The worst situation would let it just take its course where in this case you will end up in a doctor's office in Orlando somewhere due to a painful ear infection.
